What are some constructive ways to reduce the rate of HIV transmission in Africa?

Why?

well...they already have people over there teaching safe sex..and passing out condoms and teaching them about diseases. If they don't get it by now..they never will... but we can keep trying. Who knows...maybe one day..they'll learn how to listen.

There needs to be education to teach the people of Africa how they are getting the disease. They should be taught how they are spreading the disease. There are many myths that need to be addressed as false. Information needs to be presented to these people by any and all available ways. --billboards, magazines, new paper ads, music, missionaries, doctors, nurses, teacher, one city, one town, one village, one person at a time. The goal would be for word of mouth by educated people to spread.

Initial studies show that Hiv is far more prevalent in Africa, because of their sexual activities has been proven false. There sexual habit is similar to those in Western natioms. The most likely reason why Africa has such high infection rate, is due to their already supressed immune system from a poor diet. HIV has a harder time infecting a person if they are healthy., so a higher viral count is needed to infect the healthy. Education of all people will help lower the infection rate, but the problem is that education is so bad there, that many would not be able to understand what is being taught. I have talked to immigrants who don't understand the bases of disease. SOme think that exercise can get rid of any disease. I would yell until I'm blue in the face that Magic Johnson being an Athlete does not prevent him from getting the disease. Providing a proper diet would help though, but it would only reduce the infection rate. Reducing their population growth would make it easier provide food for their own population seems a better long term solution than to continually support these countries. ALso teaching them not to eat bush meat, particularly primates would help prevent a creation of a new strain of HIV. Religious teachings will help too. Although I do not condone missionary actions. Most religions forbid sexual activities that lead to STD's. Increase medical care would help as well. Routine testing would help identify people with HIV and hopefully prevent him from infecting others.

First is to create awarenss on how hiv is contracted. Then advocating for behavior change and emphasies that this is just a condition and not necessarily a dead sentence.

Also change of traditions like wife inheritence, circumcision using unhygienic tools and use of condoms or abstinance in case one does not have condoms.

of importance however is the need for testing to know ones status so as to engage in responsible sex, and those who are already positive should be taught on how to live positively.

safe sex practice, not sharing tooth brushes, reducing rape and assult, safe pregnancies and births, proper nutrition and housing. There are too many factors.
The most constructive are:
1. Safe sex practices - especially promoting using a condom.
2. Not sharing toothbrushes, so that no oral contaminants are spred from person to person.
3. Ensuring a mother has a C-section to dilery her baby if she is infected (as soon as the baby goes through the vaginal canal, they too are infected and the same with breast feeding).

Just remember through, its not just africa that needs to reduce HIV incidence, it is every where. Its too common adn more awareness needs to be put in place to teach people the affects and controls of this disease.
