Do prisoners get treatment for AIDS/HIV?

If a prisoner has AIDS/HIV does the prisoner still get medication for it? Does the same go for STDs?

And I'm not saying that prisoners shouldn't get treatment for their diseases just because they're criminals.

You don't say what country you are in so it will depend very much on that. In Australia, the US, Western Europe and Britain prisoners do receive treatment for AIDS/HIV. I do not know about most of Asia but in Bali you must provide your own medicines and you are allowed to go to doctors but you must pay for it yourself.

Often in western prisons you get very good treatment because they are able to be monitored very closely and someone can see that all medicines are taken correctly and drugs and alcohol are harder to get in jail so treatment is not adversely affected by substance abuse problems.

In some countries HIV positive prisoners are isolated from the main prison population. They are in like an open hospital ward even if they are not particularly ill.

Prisoners don't get tested for AIDS.

The only people who get tested is the people who will be there a while and say they have AIDS/HIV and need treatment.

First the medical dept. will do a HIV test to confirm the diagnosis and get records from the inmates doctor in order to start treatment.

So. Yes. They do get help. They might be criminals. But they still are humans.

why WOULDN'T they..............why wouldn't they get treatment that helps to stop the spread of such a terrible virus...it is not something that is just done for THEM and even it it Were ..........again WHY NOT! They are already in JAIL paying for their crime.......are you suggesting that they should not be TREATED like HUMAN beings................well maybe people like JEFFERY DALMHER or someone who has done things so depraved and horrid.........I mean someone like that I have Absolutely NO sympathy for........he KNEW what he was doing was WRONG......he KNEW he was SICK and he didn't CARE he wanted to satisfy his SICK desires and couldn't care less about his VICTIMS........Other than that >>>>>> Why SHOULDN'T they come on now.

Yah... Just because your a prisoner doesnt mean your short changed from medical help...

Yes any medical treatment required will be given in prision and this is the same for any other long term or ongoing illness i belive...

YES.IN FACT,PRISONERS WITH AIDS GO TO THE AIDS WARD OF THE PRISON.

yup and its all at taxpayers expense..... they get better medical treatment than most US children
