Will the illegal immigrants pose an exponentially increasing burden on the US health care system?

Since Mexico and the Central American countries are largely Catholic, they mostly do not use condoms. From statistics I've seen on the internet for these countries, I gather that they have a rapidly increasing rate of sexually transmitted disease such as HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis. Don't you think their citizens with these diseases will come, more than ever, to the USA because of the superior and free treatment they can get for their diseases, compared with what they can get at home? Just another motivation for them to come and those who have these illnesses won't even try to apply under any new rules the government may make to help the illegal immigrants get legal status, because they know they won't be able to pass the medical qualifications. Comments?

Knitmama: You are wrong and reading into my comment things that I did not say. You are one of those who are seeking to call anyone against illegal immigrants racist. You are a "reverse racist."

Absolutely! They don't get checked for diseases before they slither into the USA and they bring in Tuberculosis, meningitis, HIV/AIDS, and lord knows what else. They have litters of bambinos so they can get more welfare. They have already caused the closing of hundreds of hospitals because they wouldn't pay their bills and when all those filthy diseases start spreading there won't be hospitals enough to care for the people who need the medical care. YEAH, I'd say they pose an exponentially increasing burden on the US health care system (and all other 'systems')

Health professionals have written the following to explain how their hands were tied when forced to treat illegals for minor medical problems in hospital ER's and the impact it made on the hospitals:

very much in . my opion?

It already has and can only get worse with the number of immigrants coming into US rising rapidly.

uh... our health care system is in the crapper already because it's so expensive that the majority of Americans don't make enough a year ($40,000 per household, according to the census) to afford to use it...

It's not because of the immigrants though... have you seen the profits the medical compaines are making (both insurance, medical supply, medication and actual doctors)... if you know someone in the business, they are probably the wealthiest person you know... and how much health insurance has gone up in the past 5 years... it's rediculous...

The illegals are a part of the problem, but only a very small part... point the finger where it should be pointed... greedy CEOs of the healthcare industry...

First of all illegals are not all H.I.V. positive.

The catholic church is older (and wiser than the protestant revolution) so our ideology is one to propogate the species not delegate them to diseases.

The motivation has been here 100 years before James Town (Spanish).

Ask the native americans who the illegals are: 1st the spanish, 2nd the English... Sorry, but your #2.

The English are the prospect of bad weather, While americans have been busy accomodating "other" americans, they have forgotten that have gotten here on the backs of Spanish horses and Ships "Ninya, Pinta, Santa Maria." We do not burn cities in protest because we too are Europeans.
Why build a wall unless a true competitor exists on the other side?... A blood relative to the English and arch rival...? Or maybe the glam of a recent 300 years blinds us to the truth.

OK. Where to start.

Use of condoms and other methods of birth control has a lot less to do with Catholicism--though I know the Pope's position, yes--and more to do with education and economic standing. When immigrants from poorer countries come to the US, their education and economic situation will improve. They will be more likely to use condoms.

Nobody in the US can get free medical treatment. That's the problem. If we did offer universal medical care (even to non citizens), like the Canadians and Europeans, then that would probably LESSEN the burden on our health care system, because there would be more preventive medicine and better health education, instead of more emergency room visits which are the most expensive option. Administrative costs involved with insurance and HMOs would be lowered, so more of the money spent on health care would actually be spent on health care, instead of most of it being wasted.

Would health care availability create another attraction for illegal immigration? Probably. But I don't think they need another reason to come--jobs are a big enough reason already.

I assume your question is prompted by the recent marches and controversy over immigration. Most of the people who have been involved in these protests have been in the US for years, even generations, many have American children and pay US taxes (you can get a taxpayer ID number if you don't qualify for a SSN--the IRS looks after itself). They're not just jumping the border to see a doctor, communicate some STDs, and then join a protest march or two.

And your presumption that those poor, brown people all have AIDS--which is absolutely the subtext of your remarks--is racist.

How much longer do we Really think our Social Services Can Stand under the Pressure???

TB, Polio, Plague, and Leprosy Are On The Rise And These Are All Diseases Of The PAST,(In OUR Nation) And They Are Proliferating In The 3rd World, (South And Central America) And Spreading North

According To The US-Mexico Border Health Commission, Instances Of Hepatitis A and B Are Twice As High Along The US Mexico Border Than Anywhere Else In The USA
TB Is On The Rise In These Regions As Well

The States Of California And Arizona Have Already Lost Over 80 Hospitals EACH Due To Lack Of Funds, And They Were Treating A Majority Caseload Of ILLEGAL Aliens

Do We Really Need To Close Any More Hospitals???
What Overburdened Institutions Will Close Next??
Public Schools?? - Due To HEALTH Issues Perhaps??

This Is Way Out Of Hand
And We've Got To Put An End To It NOW
The Immigration Laws WILL Be Enforced
And We WILL Get Control Of This
BEFORE It Takes Control Of Us

Yes, they will, and yes, they do. I wish we were spending our time discussing solutions to provide afforable medical care to ALL people in the United States. Assigning blame solves nothing.
