How do i tell my significant other?

I have always taken care of my body. Have always gone to the doctor regularly and have had regular pap smears, etc. I rarely get sick, have had the flu once in my life when i was 12. Now I am 24 with 2 kids. I was in a relationship for 6 1/2 years where i was emothionally and mentally abused and i finally left him when he had a child with another female.

I have now been involved with a new person for a while who has taken my kids in as his own. We have talked about marriage and the whole nine. I had recently had a miscarriage and I am now pregnant again, almost 5 months. Just a week ago I found out I had HPV (not HIV). I know I have to break the news to him asap, but how? The doctor said the baby should not be affected, but what affects could this have on my health, and his if he has been infected? Im not certain but i'm sure i must have contracted it from my ex, and it is just showing up. What should i do and what types of treatment are out there if I am really infected?

I believe it is about 80% of women by the time they are in their 50s have been infected with this virus. It is very common. Not all strains of this cause warts either. There are several types of HPV. Your doctor should have explained this to you. Men don't have any sypmtoms of this. How do you know you didn't contract it from your current boyfriend? Anyway, it's not such a big deal. You just need to monitor your yearly pap tests to be sure none turn abnormal. You are at higher risk for cervical cancer. Tell your boyfriend, and take care of yourself. There is no real "treatment" for it. It is a virus that stays with you and you can pass it on,,,,so,,,,safe sex!

Talk to your doctor about the new HPV treaments. I don't know if they will work for you but your doctor should be a good one to tell you the facts. Don't tell your boyfriend until you get more info from your doctor.

Depending on factors such as their size and location, genital warts are treated in several ways. Although treatments can eliminate the warts, none eradicate the virus and warts often reappear after treatment. Patients should consult their doctors to determine the best treatment for them.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved imiquimod cream, which the patient can apply to the affected area, to treat genital warts. Other treatments include a 20 percent podophyllin solution, which the patient can apply to the affected area and later wash off, and a 0.5 percent podofilox solution, which also is applied to the affected area, but is not washed off. Pregnant women should not use podophyllin or podofilox because they are absorbed by the skin and may cause birth defects in babies. The doctor may also prescribe 5 percent 5-fluorouracil cream, which also should not be used during pregnancy, or trichloroacetic acid (TCA).
Small warts can be removed by cryosurgery (freezing), electrocautery (burning), or laser treatment. Occasionally, surgery is needed to remove large warts that have not responded to other treatment.

Some doctors use the antiviral drug alpha interferon, which they inject directly into the warts, to treat warts that have recurred after removal by traditional means. The drug is expensive, however, and does not reduce the rate of recurrence.

Unfortunately most people have HPV, but don't realize it. It's possible that you caught it from your ex but it is also possible that you caught it from him. There are multiple strains of HPV not all of them cause genital warts. I recommend discussing it with your doctor to find out more about what strain you have. Also it may be best to tell him with the doctor present once you know more so that he can explain the risks properly.

Always tell the truth...no matter what, so it doesn't come back on you...maybe you got it from the new one, you don't know..but it is better to be outspoken than to hide it,...you do get that from a man...both of you should be frank, and talk to your doctor together asap

I can totally understand, I had to tell my husband a few months back that I have herpes, that was so hard, I took care of myself and such but still things happen. I was very scared to tell him but when I finally sat him down and told him I went to the doctor and this is what the outcome is and we went from there. He was very understanding but you just have to be honest about it and i did research so when he asked questions I had some sort of answer to help out. It will be ok just do some research and relax a bit it will be fine.
