American moving to Britain.?

Hey guys, multi-part Q here;

So I'm an American student, I have ambitions of moving from this contry to Britain in 2-3 years fter geting my degree and making preparations. I am utterly disgusted with the politics of this country and the disastrous downfall of living standards here.

I plan to move to Britain with my Mother and Brother, both US citizens. We will bring with us around 150 thousand US dollars.

I could open up a business like a restauarant (we are Christian Lebanese) or we could just get normal jobs, whatever is permited. I also speak French and Spanish and some Arabic, could be helpful for business or socialwork I suppose.

The main problem I think is that I'm HIV positive and I dont know if that impedes me from emmigrating to your great country .

I'm not moving there for treatment of HIV , I have that here free of charge, we are just not happy here.

Can anyone tell me please how difficult is it for Americans to emmigrate to England & whats the process?

BTW guys, I know 150,000 US is'nt awhole lot of money in pounds, but I think I would have the qualifications to get a decent job if its not enough to open up a small business. We jst cantlive in a coutnry where our tax money is being use to massacre people on a daily basis (i.e. Iraqi war).

HIV positive aside... why the hell do you want to come to the UK, it's a bigger sh*t hole than the USA and I can't wait till i can get out of here

It is very very easy for an American to emigrate to Britain. All you will need to do is obtain a visa.. which can be done with any British embassy or immigration office. Call them up and ask them for information regarding your move, and they will not deny you a visa based on your medical condition.. just be sure to make it known to them.

Easy ... just claim political asylum, tell the authorities you are afraid of returning to the US as George Bush will persecute you and your family. The British Government will gladly welcome you and even give you a home and monies.

well... i dont really what to say. but i'd stay there if i was you its loads cheaper there than over here.

the government is crap, they havent got a clue how to treat their people.

if you want to know the process you are better of speaking to the british embassy there in the USA.

I wonder why you would think UK is better than your country? Have you been to UK before? I would suggest you to take a short break coming down here maybe this Christmas, stay here for couples of days and the make a decision after your holiday.

Also, it doesn't matter if you are HIV positive or what, a patient should not be discriminated to have a holiday or move to somewhere they want to live.

You say that you are HIV positive.There is no free healthcare there. $150,000. over there will buy you less than half than in the USA as the dollar has lost its value. You are right about the standerd of living in the usa going down. Because America is in to much debt to the world.
No harm in trying to get in over there.

I agree with pinky and THE BRAIN, why ? would you want to come and live over here, it's getting worse by the day. They let any T*ss pot in and we are over flowing with illegal immigrants. Why tell us how much money you have got too,? the government will give you anything you ask for, house, money, benefits, car. Why not come and sponge off us, the more the merrier.

$150,000 works out at about 拢75,000. You won't even buy a house or flat for that over here - average house prices being around 拢200,000 ($400,000). You could obviously get a mortgage though and put a deposit on a house.

Cost of living is astronomical over here. You might do well to set up your own business if you can (we'd love to do this but poor credit rating stops us getting a business loan). Finding a good job is VERY hard (you'll be competeing with half of Eastern Europe as well as British people). I would set up your own business if I were you. Also speaking different Languages is useful as you can always get translation/interpreter work. Greatly in demand in the UK especially in the Health Service.

Setting up a Lebanese resturant sounds good and certainly Lebanese cuisine is rare over here so who knows, you might start a new craze!!

Having HIV shouldn't prohibit you although you might need to check with immigration.

However I would be wary of thinking that the British standard of living in better than American. Its pretty sh!t here sometimes if you will pardon my French. There are British people really struggling to make ends meet whilst the Government snatches away what little they have. People who come here from the third world with nothing, holding out a begging bowl for benefits and goodies from the Government get far more than the average British taxpayer, who just gets taxed, ripped off and dumped on. There was a recent expose of Asylum Seekers and a Somali woman who has never worked in the Uk but lives in a 5 bedroom house (provided free of charge with her rent paid by the Government) and gets 拢30,000 benefits a year for her 5 kids. Whilst this is happening, working British families are being thrown into the street because they can't afford their mortgages and pensioners can't afford to eat and keep warm on their pensions. Fair? I think not.

In the UK, decent jobs are hard to come by, housing is unaffordable, immigration is out of control, crime is rampant. Many people are leaving the UK as its changing beyond recognition and not for the better.

DONT BOTHER Man .UK is just an extension of your crap there but with public alcoholics, litter, dog dirt pavements, capitalism, armed cops, junkies, rampant racism, youth gangs kicking innocent people (sometimes to death) desecrated housing ,overpopulation of lazy brits and foul food and weather. Also your $$ will be half its value and everything in UK is more expensive than US. So dont dream and kid yourself man. The restaurant would be welcome as I have eaten and like Lebanese food. But all they want in UK is chips and burgers after a gut full of chemical beer and Red Bull Vodka. It is a horrible place UK so do yourself and family a favour. Oh and sorry but degrees are ten a penny. I've completed three and it means little to anyone else. UK IS NO GREAT COUNTRY !!! It is a SESSPIT !!

Well my lad, there is not much more I can add, that hasn't already been said, I am 59years, much that has been written is correct, for me personally, life is good, I live in a nice part of the UK, and don't have to work, but for you being younger, and starting a new life here could be difficult, $150.000 will not go very far, take a tip from me, come for a holiday first, and check things out as best you can, before making a commitment.

We still have people living and begging on the streets here, We have houses with no inside toilets, we still have lead pipe water mains, we have politicians, and members of the House of Lords who have been in prison. We have spin doctors telling our MPs how to lie.
Tell truth:- Why do you really want to come here.

The UK is very overcrowded and expensive - if you think the standard of living in the US is poor, just wait until you pay $2.10 for a litre of petrol! It's very hard to make a new restaurant work here - loads fail all the time, because there's so much competition. I don't honestly know if you would get work permits either. Personally, if I were moving, I would go to Canada because there's loads more space and your $150,000 could actually buy you somewhere to live there. Good luck!

Perhaps, you want to put more thought into what you are about to do. According to what you said, your disenchantment with the politics here has left a bitter taste in your mouth. Politics in the UK are far worse, and folk tend to be more judgemental there than here. We are opinionated, but it is still live and let live.

You also have not put much thought into the weather. Cold weather is not the best for HIV; I learned this from someone who moved to a cold State but had to relocate to a hotter one. I think you need to choose between fifty States. Think about it! Having fifty choices is far better than two.

Realistically, 85,000 pounds will not go far with three persons. Again, you are listening to your emtionions and not your rational mind. The USA has some of the best alternative treatment centers in the world. You sound like a sincere person; I hope you put more thought into the matter.

(Have you not noticed all the negative responses you are getting from persons from the UK?. It gets worse once you moved there.)
