How close are we to a HIV vaccine or cure?

i know this is a tough one and all previous attempts have failed. but, are there still any promising lines of inquiry scientists are taking with this disease?
is there any realistic time frame we expect to have it cured by?
and finally, when it first took hold, how long did people expect to wait for it to be cured back then?
are we really any further forward now with a cure, not treatment, but actually getting rid of the disease, than we were back then?

to the first answerer, i dont think that is likely. its possible but i think its so unlikely as there is so much money to be made from the cure. 40 million people needing it is one hell of a profit.

People sometimes get the disease or virus that they are vaccinated for from the vaccination... would you want to chance it with HIV?

i heard the same thing from what the first person said they have already found a cure but wont give it out because companies are making so much money from the treatment that people infected use,

A vaccine could exist if people were willing to accept a high safety risk with the vaccine. Using powerful adjuvants would work but this would also be associated with a higher number of adverse events which would never get public or regulatory approval. So because the world is full of wimps, many will die. Personally, I would make the vaccine and tell people the risks and let them decide if it is worth it to them.
