How long can an HIV victim survive while he/she has managed to put detections levels very low or undetectable?

available treatment can decrease HIVdetections to undetactable levels, but the cahllenge is to eliminate the reserves located in the brain,of which if it can be done-then a cure!

Very low or undetectable levels of HIV are usually a good sign that it's not currently doing a lot of damage to the immune system.

However:

having a low viral load now doesn't mean that it's always going to stay that way. CD4 lymphocyte counts that fall significantly and consistently over a period can also indicate that HIV is damaging the immune system.

if your viral load is high or increasing and you wait too long to get it under control with anti HIV drugs, the virus can cause damage to the immune system that can't be fully reversed, despite the rises in CD4 counts that often occur with treatment.

If you have HIV you should monitor your viral load and immune system (especially CD4 counts), and discuss with your doctor when and if to use antiretroviral drugs. They are not easy drugs to use and can have significant side effects, but can make a huge difference in preserving the health of people with HIV infection when they are used properly at the right time.

Unfortunately there is currently no medical treatment to eliminate all HIV from the body.

There are a whole lot of drugs in the pipeline, and the ones that are out now are very good, so if someone were to contract HIV now, they would probably live until old age, they might not even die from it and die from other natural causes. Cant say about people that already have it.
