Medical School and Pregnancy PLEASE HELP? |
Well, I have been accepted into medical school this coming fall and it is a dream come true. I worked so hard for 4 years to get to this point and it's finally happending. I have one MAJOR problem, though. I screwed up BIG time and I'm pretty sure I am pregnant. I do not know for sure yet, but I have the symptoms and it's just a strong gut feeling. I need some advice on what to do about this because I obviously cannot attend med school with a newborn. I never thought I belived in abortion until I found my self in this situation. I do not know what I believe anymore. I plan on specializing in HIV treatment and other immune deficiencies. I know I can save many lives, and this opportunity is just too big of a chance for me to blow by having this baby. I know I'm the one to decide this but I need some opinions on what to do..! PLEASE HELP First of all, CONGRATS! Medical school is a huge deal and you must have worked so hard to get there! I am a nurse so I have a small window into what medical students, interns and residents go through. Wow. You really are in a tough spot. Have you considered adoption? You would be able to give an infertile couple a dream come true and facilitate the life of your unborn child. I am not sure how all adoptions work but it is possible that the adoptive parents might even be able to help you while you are in school and carrying the child. Well you don't know yet for sure if you are pregnant, so don't stress about it.. Take a pregnancy test when you can. If you are lucky you won't be pregnant, and you will be able to achieve your dream, if you are pregnant. Raise the baby, and wait a couple years to start med school. This is a decision for you and the father. Are you married? I think you should worry about this when the pregnancy tests comes back positive. I wouldn't worry a second before... A baby is a blessing. You have to make a choice that you can live with. You should take responsibility for your actions!!! I don't believe in abortions. That's why when I found out I was pregnant I kept my baby. I could NOT imagine my life without her. I hope you make the right choice. Good Luck A little late for all this right? Maybe you should have been more careful and abortion is never the answer deal with the consequences and have your baby and it will just be double the work One-if you want both you can do it. I did! have the baby, and then have someone take care of the baby or put the baby up for adoption. please don't abort your child. You want to save lives and help people have the best life they can, yet you are willing to kill your baby to do it? That doesn't sound right. You should not have an abortion, and its not blowing a chance. Hi-well, as others have said, you don't even know yet if you are pregnant, so your worries are a bit premature. I can tell you that a girl I went to med school with had a baby 6 weeks before we started, and she did just fine, and has been quite successful. It is a lot of work, to be sure, but it is doable. I've known plenty of people who had children during school. If you feel that you absolutely cannot care for a newborn and be in med school, you may want to consider deferring your start a year or so, or giving the baby up for adoption. It is not for me to tell you what to do, but you see babies all the time during the 4 years of med school--you can imagine how tough that will be if you decide not to continue with the pregnancy. Being a physician has been very rewarding, but I've never put my personal life aside... it's just not worth it. Good luck, and congrats on med school! |
