Why there should there be affordable treatments for HIV?

Why there should there be affordable treatments for HIV?

If you are asking why the treatments should be affordable, the answer is that a lot of innocent people get the disease and don't deserve to die from it. Did you know even little hemophiliac children (those that need a lot of blood transfusions) can get HIV from the blood they receive? How fair is that? So if you think that people don't deserve cheaper treatments because "they did it to themselves by having sex" then you are wrong. Some people get transplants and have no choice whatsoever because they got a tainted organ. So, in conclusion, if it is possible to manufacture cheaper drugs, we should do it because not everyone "has a choice" as the other poster put it.

There shouldnt. There is always a free treatment which can keep you from getting HIV. Abstinence.
Go ahead and give me a thumbs down but this needs to be said. HIV is a behavioral controlled disease. Pretty simple to avoid. Now days with all in information about how its spread, people who get it pretty much MADE THAT CHOICE.

For the poster who said little kids with blood transfusions get it. You seem to be stuck in the 80s. No one gets HIV that way anymore in this country. Our blood supply is very safe.
But I will make a deal with you....any kid who gets HIV from a trasfusion gets free aids treatment. Everyone else has to pay double.

To answer in a way I think you might agree with me is this: the more people who have it, the more chances you have to get it.
Many states do not have free or affordable help for many, many patients. Patients have their names of lists to get any help at all.
CA is very lucky to have a better Public Health system. Here, we help sick people without judging them. Blaming anyone for a disease is not very 'nice' to say it nicely.
There are countless people who have been on drugs, have recovered, and are no longer addicted. However, anything they did get infected with, while on drugs, or on the streets, or in prison, or in any cramped area..............did not go away just because their 'new way of living' began. To continue to blame someone for a 'history' that has been totally changed to a new way of living and being.
People are dying, because there is no 'cure'. People are sick who were, once, ignorant of the standard rules of safe sex that those of us who read a lot, have kept up on. Remember, people are still alive who DID have blood transfusions that gave them this Virus. People WITH this virus, unknowingly gave blood...........and the blood banks/hospitals, weren't checking for HIV for a long time!
Helping people who are sick is what Americans do.
