Did You Know: HIV/AIDS Medications Are Not Paid For By Medicaid Until AIDS Has Fully Developed?

According to the HRC: "Despite the fact that Medicaid is the largest single provider of HIV/AIDS care in the United States, currently, most adults with HIV are not eligible for Medicaid until they have progressed to full-blown AIDS. Without Medicaid coverage, many low-income Americans are left without the critical care and medication needed to help slow the progression of the disease. According to a study conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers, enactment of this legislation would reduce the death rate among individuals on Medicaid living with HIV/AIDS by half over 10 years."

The speaker of the house cannot do anything about this issue. The Medicaid program of this country doesn't exist. Medicaid is a STATE run program. You should look into the Medicaid programs at the state level and stop making such general assumptions. I understand you are going bu some study....but you should read the study in its entirety, not just the summary, and research before you make such statements.

I work for a medical billing company in NY State, and I know for a fact that NYS Medicaid has a special program for HIV/AIDS patients called A.D.A.P.

Programs such as ADAP are severely underfunded though, and the House and Senate can vote to increase federal spending on state run programs such as these.

It deserves support, yes. It's horrible that people aren't eligible to receive treatment through medicaid while having the HIV virus.

Hopefully, in addition to the early treatment act, there will be more education through schools on HIV/aids at a young age.

I agree with schildt2009. Most cases are gotten through person choice, so choose to pay for your own infections., In cases where it is caught through blood transfusions or medical errors the hospital need be responsible.
