What the average life span of someone w/ HIV?

My therapist asked me what would be the worst case scenario if I did get HIV (this is my phobia). I told him that I would die and not see my kids grow up. He said that people w/ HIV now live normal lives and live to see their great-grandkids now because of medication. Is it possible to live a normal healthy long life w/ HIV just on medication? Has the treatment for HIV really come that far?

The HIV treatment really has come a long way. Look at Magic Johnson, He was diagnosed in 1991 and still is healthy and living life. He doesnt look like he's going anywhere. As far as the treatment goes, it has gotten better from the research showing strains of HIV, some more harmful than others. Medications, though not cheap, are more conveniant to the patient. Some meds, the patients have to take 3 capsules 3 times a day, other are on a twice a day medication, depends on how your md thinks the virus will react. And that varies person to person. I know that contracting HIV is your phobia, but as long as you dont put yourself in the situation to contract the disease, you'll be fine. Have protected sex, screen your partners thoroughly before taking the step to have sex.

There's so much advancements in HIV you can live through it if magic Johnson did it

this is only a rumor it is not fact...but I've read that the longest to live w/HIV virus considering the type is 10 yrs....some people are just carriers and live long lives......some who develop aids at a fast rate usually don't love much longer..on a average of 10 yrs once full blown aids has kicked in.
