If someone is hiv+ for 20 years what are the chances it still will progress to aids with treatment?

Treatment for life. Must see a doctor and continue the HIV drugs. 20 years is a long time to be HIV+ and not have had aids yet.

In the early 80's the lifespan of a HIV+ person was about 2 years.

We've come a long way!

i think still possible bcareful

Treatment is just that-treatment. It's come a long way but HIV will still progress to AIDS until a cure is found. Now, this might mean another 30 years of you being healthy. Good going so fat. Just keep on the meds!

100% are the chances it WILL progress to AIDS , even with treatment. Just a matter of time, but now with newer and more effective medications, this time is increasing tremendously.

Actualy there are a few individuals that have had HIV for 20+ years that have not progressed to AIDS, even without treatment. These are very rare cases however, but it shows that individual genetic variation can account for a very different outcome. We don't really know what it is about their genetic makeup that makes these people different. If you have had HIV for 20 years, it is still likely to progress to AIDS, even with continued treatment, since the virus could mutate into one of the resistant forms at any time. However it could be a long time from now. You might even be one of the lucky ones that never progress.

Sorry to say but the chances are 100%.The HIV will still progress to AIDS coz HIV infection can be treated but it cannot be cured.If someone is HIV+ for the last 20 years,i presume he is on anti retroviral theraphy(present treatment for HIV infection).The anti retroviral theraphy can only delay the onset of AIDS but cannot cure the person of the infection.

Infection due to HIV occurs through:
1. Unprotected sexual intercourse with an infected partner. Regular and consistent use of condoms during sexual intercourse means protected sex and minimizes the chances of getting HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
2. Transfusion of infected blood or blood products.
3. Use of infected needles as in injecting drug use or in health care settings.
4. From mother to child.
The A, B, C of HIV prevention are:
A= Abstinence
B= Being faithful to one single partner and
C= Consistent and correct use of condoms.

Stay Safe.
