What is the life expectancy of someone with HIV/AIDS who does not receive treatment, and for someone who does?

I know there is no definate answer, just looking for an average.

The opportunistic infections that accompany an AIDS pt. will probably kill them within a year or so, if not properly tested and treated with today's modern medications...the Pt's. who receive treatment have an average life expectancy of probably 10-25 yrs. I know of several AIDS Pt's. on multiple meds and treatment who were infected in the 80s and are doing well. I don't recall knowing anyone from the 60s or 70s, mainly due to the fact that the AIDS drug were not around then to help them. Since the advent of newer drugs, they are now living longer productive lives....and some you can't even tell that they have AIDS...hope this helped. :O)

i think it is very individualized. everyone's body reacts differently. it depends on their viral load and CD4 count. here's a website that may have some STATS on the life expectancy. i have seen them before but i cant remember. i think i read that once diagnosed the average person lives about 10 years but that varies a great deal. i know people w/ HIV diagnsosis who have been + for >10 years
