I heard about this new treatment for HIV being attempted by Sangamo Biosciences, a company that deals with?

genetic modification/editing. Studies have found some people have a genetic mutation that makes them pretty much immune to hiv, and through a genetic editing machine called the zinc finger somethin or other, i can't remember the name exactly (someone won the Nobel Prize for creating it) they can edit your genes to match this mutation. Has anyone else heard of this? Is it possible now?

I heard of this study back in december of 2005, the mutation of the cell though is one that is currently unknown to be able to conduct within a living human being. The mustation essentially blocks the contraceptive method of HIV (or the door which HIV attacks through). It's very very experimental and unfortunatly is not immunity that's being granted but rather resistance. I do know that one of the two trials was haulted by the toxicity of the drug (essentially so toxic that it would have destroied a humans liver) Also unfortunatly, like many different virii and as is with any disease the testing is only showing immunities to one strain of HIV. The mutation, which this treatment is copying is the delta 32 mutation which is kind of like sickle cell, (in a way) where the T cells are deformed (or mutated) in such a way that the HIV virus cannot concieve on them. Unfortunatly as was noted before, it seems like they are running into a number of problems with this, and it is still in phase 1 trail (which means no testing on/with humans has been preformed).
