Is there anyone here who's against getting their daughters the HPV vaccine for religious reasons?

What if there was an HIV/AIDS vaccine? Would anybody choose not to vaccinate their children for religious reasons?

Honestly, I'm not sure, 8>LoVe 4 ChRiSt iS lUv 4 LiFe. I intentionally left the question fairly vague to hopefully get a wider range of responses. Any reason having to do with your faith, your belief, and how they govern your actions, I guess.

If there are, they need a bloody slap... HPV is transmitted by skin-skin contact usually and causes a lot more than just Cervical cancer.

The terrifying thing is, if you deny your daughter the vaccine because they "might go screwing around" you're also leaving her wide open to infection from her future Husband who can catch it just by shaking someone's hand... There is no valid reason for denying it, unless you WANT your daughter to become infected with HPV.

*edit* Good grief... Kelly, FlowerGirl. The HPV's that are being vaccinated against are NOT just STD's... They can be caught by simply shaking the hand of someone who is infected. (ok, exaggerated... but it is skin - skin contact that leads to infection, not just sex)
By all means teach them to abstain... but denying them this vaccine is leaving them unprotected from an infection they can catch without having sex!

What kind of parent would leave their child unprotected like that???

I have heard many arguments from fundamentalists saying that basically this vaccine is the same as condoms in school and safer sex education. According to them it encourages teens to have sex.

I would suggest instead that they are still hoping desperately to push the "sex equals death" argument and things that would prevent death are seen as being the devils way of getting in the way of the death message. Very sick if you ask me.

And if I had a daughter I would most certainly have her vaccinated against this cancer causing virus. I would not use such a threat to hang over her head to try to force her to do what I want her to. There must be better ways to teach responsibility and self awareness than something so heartless and barbaric.

I think if you refuse to get your child vaccinated against HPV for religious reasons only, you should be held neglect.

Unless your religion precludes all vaccines of course.

Let me explain. If your religion permits vaccines for whooping cough, diptheria and smallpox and you refuse to get your child vaccinated against HPV for religous reasons only, then you should be held neglect.

I don't have children, but if I did have a daughter, I wouldn't get her the HPV vaccine. When I was in school, it was all about abstinence. Now, it's all about providing safe sex for every age. By equipping our children with condoms and vaccines, we are only encouraging their sexual behaviors. How can they learn to think responsibly and make wise choices if they are able to avoid consequences? It's very tough love indeed, but if we stick with it, I believe it will pay off in the long run. If she has the vaccine, what happens if she gets pregnant? Will an abortion be in line?

My only religious reason for not using this vaccination is that the Lord commanded us to not be sexually impure. If we are giving our kids the means for safe sex, we are only giving them a green light to engage in sex, which is the opposite command of the Lord. We need to return to the old school and take the time to teach and raise our children using the word of God.

My daughter wont get it but not for religious reasons, she won't get it because it doesn't work. It is a vaccine that doesn't prevent anything and has killed several women.

We vaccinate our children because the people we trust tell us to, but if you look at the data on vaccines you would find that most are unnecessary and many are actually dangerous. It is time for us to stop being sheep and actually take responsibility for what we do to ourselves and our children.

My reasons have nothing to do with religion...HPV is caused by having multiple sex partners at an early age...as explained to me by my OBGYN when I had to have surgery to remove cancer from my cervix at the age of 24. HPV causes more than one type of cancer....and the vaccine is only designed to possibly control only 1 of those types.....if my daughter doesnt "sleep around" she will have no need for it.

the HIV/Aids HYPOTHETICAL vaccine is much the same...if she protects her self, and does not sleep around...same situation.

the risks of vaccinations far outweigh the possible good they might do.....I have done years of research on this....

I am Christian and I totally support getting our daughters the HPV vaccine.

This vaccine protects them from a disease that could slowly and painfully kill them.

Not to mention, HPV can be passed through the birth canal, so even if my daughter and her groom were virgins on their honeymoon, my daughter could still end up with this virus.

Anyway, the point is that we need to stop the religious rhetoric and take care of our daughters.

There's something wrong with a parent who would rather his daughter caught cancer than (potentually) became sexually active... that said, there may be sound MEDICAL reasons for not taking the vaccine, at least according to news reports I've heard.

Religious people have been like pushing the whole abstinence and ignorance program.

Looks like that worked out real well.

my mom won't let me get it. not that i want it. if i am practicing abstinancy, what's the point in getting a vaccine for a sexually transmitted virus?

It would be mighty ignorant to claim that there's any religious reason not to take this protective measure.

Absolutely not... if it helps to prevent a death... because if left untreated HPV can cause cancer, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

religous reasons? please explain...

because i can think for myself i say no

Our daughter won't be getting it.

By the time you read this, I will have spread HPV to another daughter.
