WHAT IS THE PROSPECT OF AN HIV VACCINE?

do you want to have HIV/AIDS? if not; the best protection is a vaccine! this vaccine is not a 100% garentiee but its alot better than nothing... If your a person who is 'active' get it! if not stay away from it till u are.

It would be difficult to create an effective vaccine for HIV, since it is a retro-virus. Being a retro-virus that means that it goes from RNA to DNA instead of the central dogma that with are use to. This process makes it more prone to genetic mutations. Meaning that it is constantly changing, so putting a vaccine will not catch the mutations.

You should look into the protein called TRIM5 Alpha. It allows for resistance against retroviruses, though it only seems to be coded as an intron in monkeys in the Americas.

This trick is to figure out why that protein block the virus and how it works within the cell. This is somewhat the basis of the research being conducted for a vaccine. However this is prevention. If you already have the Virus, you're pretty much screwed.

From all my research, the chances are not especially good at all, at this point in time. Problem is; this virus mutates so quickly, and it's hard to hit a moving target. :( It doesn't help that the Republicans froze research budgets for so long, either - and hindered stem cell research (which may be the way we need to go?)

The good news? Scientists continue to invent new drugs to prolong the lives of those already infected. There is always something new 'in the pipeline', in that regard.

they were going to release one this year but pushed it back for more research... i'd say in the next five years we will have a vaccine but not a cure... the problem is phase 2 and 3 of the clinical trials have failed so far.
