Can studing evolution lead to a cure for aids? |
Please help, i've been looking for a site that talks abot this. I know that HIV/AIDS is and evolving virus so based on that can studing evolution yield a cure for AIDS please cite source thanks. You should check research done on the SIV (simian immuno virus). The answer is yes. For instance, HIV seems to have developed in apes, yet the only ape that contracts AIDS from HIV seems to be humans. If you can understand the differences between human and other ape species in regards to the regulation of HIV, then you can understand the suppression mechanisms that can keep it from progressing into AIDS on the cellular level. If we can predict or control the mechanisms that lead to evolution of HIV, we can more efficiently target it for removal from the body. As it is, it changes in its genetic code quite often. Additionally, if we study humans that are not susceptible to HIV due to changes in their genetic code (they are rare but they do exist), we can construct drugs based on the gene that was causing immunity to treat HIV. I hope so one day , but hiv is an extremely smart virus |
