Would you risk your life in order to find a cure for HIV/AIDS?

If you had the chance to insert a defective HIV virus into your system as a vaccination against the disease would you?

Let's examine the details before you make up your mind:
It would be kind of like the "retard" vaccination and your body would probably be able to kill it.
you would be the first to ever try it, knowing that you could possibly die.
But if it worked you could save millions of lives.

But also:
The virus/disease changes and evolves very quickly.
And one single vaccination would not work your whole life.


You would be in a sense sacrificing yourself in order to save lives of those who are capable of getting the disease/virus.
(Which is everyone.)

The problem with this is that HIV mutates so fast that this would only protect you against one strain, and you would still be susceptible to all of the other strains, so what's the point in being safe against one of millions?

This is probably the most ignorant question I've heard.

You said yourself the virus mutates, so in actuality, you would not be saving all that many people, since there are different strains of the virus.

And I'm curious...why exactly would this person die from the vaccine? Because the vaccine may kill them? Or the HIV from the vaccine?

If it's the latter, this question is more ignorant than I thought. HIV/AIDS is not the death sentence it was in the 80's.
