Can you get the HIV virus from putting on chap stick after one time after a person that has HIV has used it?

You have options. These are your options.

If HIV person HAS sore, cracked lip or little opening where little blood is out in the open:
You + chap stick = HIV

If HIV person has NO sore, cracked, small opening lips:
You + chap stick = No HIV

If You HAVE a sore, cracked, small opening in your lips + HIV person HAS sore, cracked, small opening:
You + chap stick = HIV

If You HAVE a sore, cracked, small opening in your lips + HIV person has NO sore, cracked, small opening:
You + chap stick = MAYBE (see a doctor)

BE ADVISED. Seek a professional if still unsure.

If the previous user of the chap stick has blood, or blood products on their lips, then theoretically it is possible to be innoculated with their virus. However, for the virus to survive and mulitiply it needs to be in a warm, wet environment. It dies quickly if it isn't kept warm or is in a dry place. Most of the time the lips are too dry so, if you waited a few minutes before you used the chapstick the virus would be dead or well on its way to dying.
If you licked your lips before putting the chap stick on and didn't lick your lips for several minutes after application then the chances of contracting the virus would be very, very small indeed. However, if you have cracked lips which had some blood or blood products in the cracks then this is an entry point for the virus and you've increased your chances of innoculation if there's any virus on the chapstick.

It's a long shot. HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, is spread by direct contact with body fluids such as blood, semen, and saliva. However, you would have to come into contact with about 10 gallons of saliva from an HIV+ person before you would get infected.

HIV cannot survive when exposed to air. Don't worry, but talk to your doctor if you need additional reassurance.

I's say the chances of you getting HIV through chapstick are marginal.

It's a funny thing. AIDS is actually quite difficult to catch. However, the more catastrophic the consequences of getting a particular disease, the more contagious people think it is.

No.. theres no known cases of hiv being transmitted from sharing chapstick. it is a blood borne virus that spreads through bodily fluid contact such as blood or semen. but hiv is associated with individuals who perform high risk behaviours so the question is... do you really know where that chapticks been?

No. If you had noticed blood you wouldn't use it, if there was saliva there is not enough HIV in saliva (the small amount you would get on chap stick) to infect someone.

The only way you would be at risk is if both of you have bleeding lips. Also, HIV only survives for a few minutes once exposed to air.

if lips are chapped and bleeding by all means if you use it right behind someone infected.
