Chances of contracting HIV through scratched scab? |
I was working with a patient who's arm was bleeding alot, since not enough pressure was put on her needle hole, and i was trying to apply pressure to stop the flow. The cotton swab i put on her was thoroughly soaked with blood, so it goes to say my glove was also drenched with blood (the fingers part at least). So when me and another nurse managed to stop the bleeding, i went to change gloves, only i noticed that while changing my glove, i felt a tickle from a mosquito bite i had on my hand. It seems while i tried to take off the glove i also took off the scab off scratch, and some blood might've touched the scratch. What're the chances that the HIV virus can get in? Your chances of contracting HIV this way are very slim. If you are healthy and have a stong immune system, then you were not exposed to enoguh of the virus for transmission to occur in the circumstances you explain. However, if you want to be sure, wait 3 to 6 months and be tested; but you most likely have nothing to worry about |
