I have a virus question?

Why is it that a person can supposedly catch the common cold, which is a virus, from a surface area but not catch the hiv virus from a surface area??

I agree a virus of the common cold is completely different than a hiv virus. The HIV virus does not live long in blood once air hits it. Bleach can kill the HIV virus immediately. This may answer some of your questions. http://hivsd.com/hivneg.aspx

Because they are different species with different properties. It's like asking "why can something as simple as a fish swim but a higher form of like like a giraffe not"?

HIV doesn't survive long outside of the body. Rhinovirus (if that's what you're referring to) is well adapted to survive outside of the body and is also airborne.

HIV luckily can only be passed through bodily fluids cause it much be contained within body cells to be passed on it effects DNA, the common cold does not so it can live in a greater variety of cells and for a longer time outside of the body.

hiv is transmitted from a surface area... kind of. hiv is a std so when someone has sex the surface are of the guys dick goes inside the woman, causing the virus to spread in the woman.

the motto: always have pretection

HIV is a very fragile virus. It 'dies' very quickly when exposed to air.

The large collection of viruses that cause the cold are more resilient. They can survive for several hours on a surface before degrading.

The HIV virus doesn't have the right "key" for those type of cells...different viruses can only affect certain areas because that's what they are coded for.
