What is the REAL HIV seroconversion window period? |
The CDC gives multiple answers on their website, and most seem to be based upon a 1996 article. They say it can be as low as just a few days and can be as long as 12 months. I would like a real, definitive answer, please. It depends on which state you live in. Some states still call for the old 6 month window period. Many other states use the 3 month window period. It depends on how good their testing technology is, how much funding that state receives for HIV testing, etc. I am a certified HIV test counselor, and what we say is that most people (about 99%) will seroconvert by the end of 3 months. We recommend anyone with a KNOWN hiv exposure to test again at 6 months, when we expect that everyone will have seroconverted. The seroconversion window is inside the first three months. But, thats what i think. The answer above is better |
