Has anyone ever read the e-mail circulated that said if the world were a village of 100 people?

If the World Were a Village of 100 People

If we could reduce the world鈥檚 population to a village of precisely 100 people, with all existing human ratios remaining the same, the demographics would look something like this:
The village would have 60 Asians, 14 Africans, 12 Europeans, 8 Latin Americans, 5 from the USA and Canada, and 1 from the South Pacific
51 would be male, 49 would be female
82 would be non-white; 18 white
67 would be non-Christian; 33 would be Christian
80 would live in substandard housing
67 would be unable to read
50 would be malnourished and 1 dying of starvation
33 would be without access to a safe water supply
39 would lack access to improved sanitation
24 would not have any electricity (And of the 76 that do
have electricity, most would only use it for light at night.)
7 people would have access to the Internet
1 would have a college education
1 would have HIV
2 would be near birth; 1 near death
5 would control 32% of the entire world鈥檚 wealth; all 5 would be US citizens

The statistics were checked and it is now an informational dvd, I watched it during my orientation for the hospital I work in. If you were not feeling blessed before, do you now?

That's very outdated. For one, only 2 of the worlds top 5 are from the US. 1 is Mexican, 2 are from India.

In fact in the the whole top ten only 2 are from the USA. Most are from india (4)

And how would so many people be starving and malnourished if I had all that food to share between only 100 people?

And of those 33 who claimed to be christian, only 5 actually mean it.

Also, the combine dfinaces of the top 5 worlds richest are actually less than 1% of the rest of the world combined. Your "fact" which states they share 32% of the wealth is the only one I checked and it was wrong. I can safely assume the rest are also innacurate

I don't feel more blessed, I simply feel glad I don't live in a village where it is 80% sub-standard housing. Where I live it is much better than this! And "substandard" by who's standards anyway? Maybe where they live it very much *is* the standard. And their houses meet it!

No, I don't feel blessed, I feel fortunate. Why should I be blessed, and why aren't all those malnourished, illiterate people living in shoddy housing blessed?

These look like the statistics for the end-times ahead! Wow!I have not seen this before, but this answer was my first impression that came to mind, after reading it! How freaky is that?
