Are my living conditions affecting my health?!?

Live in an apt complex & my neighbor is moving. I went in her apt, & it had a VERY strong stale smell. She showed me the mold damage she had. There were gray blotches on the walls that were painted over, & holes in the ceiling over her shower. She had huge cracks between the wall and the floor, & gaps around the piping of the heat vents, where bugs come through.

When I moved into my apt, it reeked of the same staleness, & bleach. I have gaps around my heat vents, with bugs coming through every so often. Most are silverfish (big w/ lots of legs if u don't know). I keep finding egg sacs building up in the corners of my ceiling that I keep getting rid of.

Since Oct (same month I moved into apt), when I got bloodwork done at DR's, it would come back with high counts of white blood cells, and I'd feel fine. I'm healthy, too - no HIV or cancer, or the like. I'm RARELY down with a cold, even. Do you think my living conditions could be the cause of this?

BTW, yes, these are ground level apts. The landlord won't fix it, as (the gaps around the heat vents, anyway) are common in the other 58 apartments and no one else complains (except my neighbors, my Aunt and her family, and my mom when we lived in an upstairs 3 bedroom in 2003), even about bug problems. I know my cousin developed breathing problems once my Aunt moved in to an apt kiddie corner to mine. So it's pretty much a fix it yourself situation. And when I went to look at the apt, they had had the door open for a while so it diodn't smell and everything looked fine. And when I asked if they had a bug problem, the landlord said, "no pest issues have been reported".

If your neighbor has mold, there's a good possibility that you do too. Living with mold does affect your health negatively. Living with bugs, etc isn't good either. If you've noticed being less healthy after moving in, I doubt that it's a coincidence.
