Help!? I always hear knocks on my door at 3:30am?

Ok, this has been going on for a while. I live in a townhouse that was built in the late 60's but it has been fully remodeled.Lately this is getting me upset. Everytime I'm deeply asleep I hear two knocks on my front door, and it always happens at 3:30am or at least after 3:00am. I have called the police several times so that they could go around and check but nothing. Another thing is that I've been having several nightmares and I could sometimes feel the presence of someone.

Before moving here this house was inhabited by a young guy that died from HIV, but I'm not sure if this could be a spiritual thing, neither I would think of him harming us. It's not only me that hears this also my brothers friends that sleep over sometimes and my sister too.
I know we could attract energy and some people can possibly be psychic but I need to know what these knocks could mean?

I don't have a tree next to my front door and I don't ever receive visitors at this time.

You don't have to go down the supernatural path just yet... I would get a small camera from one of the "spy" websites or shops and set it to record the front door for 2:50-4:00 am. Check the recording next time it wakes you to ensure that it is not a neighbor that is coming home late playing tricks on you. Hopefully you can get some evidence of the the person doing it or maybe just capture the sound with nobody there.

can you and your sister try to stay up one night to hear the knocks and look out the window to see if anyone is there?
The feeling the presence of someone could be your imagination or if you are half asleep still you could be kind of dreaming before fully waking up. I am not discrediting you at all, I'm just offering another possibility!
I would totally be scared and consider moving if this did not stop!

No, just kidding. Sometimes we can get really stressed out and when we don't have time to clear our minds, our minds can get a little crazy. You're probably just paranoid because of the nightmares. Your mind makes you think you're hearing things when you're actually not. I don't know why you're hearing knocks, but I'm sure it's just a stressed out mind going crazy. Try sleeping more, or relieving some stress!

It may not be real. Try staying awake till after that time and see if you still here it. Sometimes I will here something in a dream that wakes me up and I think its real. Happened at a party once, I thought there was cops there and started to panic, lol.

If you hear it after staying awake one night and have concerns, call TAPS. That's what they are all about.
