Is abzyme therapy for HIV against God's will?

This question is mainly directed to my brothers and sisters who sincerely believe that HIV is God's judgement against gay people:

Abzyme therapy has the potential to cure and eradicate HIV disease within 5 yrs. Does that mean it is undoing God's judgement?

Should the researchers who are developing abzyme therapy stop going against God's will?

TJ: I've been coming to R&S for a little over a year, and have seen Q & A from a few radical fundamentalists who applauded HIV for carrying out "God's judgement" against the people whom it infects. I'm glad you haven't been exposed to their opinions, although I suspect you're smart enough to recognize it for what it is.

Well the hard reality of HIV is it is now predominantly a hetero female disease. That demographic eclipsed the gay demographic about 5 years ago. So realistically this should not even be an issue anymore. Yet I am sure it will be.

One in four teenage girls have an STD in America, some include HIV. How's that for the proof that abstinence is no match for the MTV generation?

so what is the reasoning for heterosexuals who have HIV or AIDS? what about children? babies?

that outlook on HIV makes me sick. I have a good friend who is a married heterosexual woman, who obtained HIV through a needlestick while at work- she is a nurse....

What about the elderly who are now obtaining it too? Of course all of these examples are moot anyway- HIV is not a gay persons disease, and those who feel it is a punishment have serious issues. I thought god loved everyone? I thought people aren't supposed to judge- only god? And what of other medications, should the pharmaceutical companies go out of business because obviously any disease would then also be gods will?

Bottom line: they got their punishment and God loves everyone he wnats them to be happy too..and he wants them to be on a right path...

God really DOES have bad aim. Not only did He divinely miss the areas in New Orleans where there were actual gays when he threw his storm at them, but now, considering HIV is higher among straights than homosexuals nowadays, he's getting the straights with his illness aimed at homosexuals.

No wonder Paul freaked out so much about the gays. He knew about God's lack of pinpoint targeting!

That used to be my thought, that HIV was God's judgement about gays. But I have changed my mind as I have learned that God don't pass such evil judgement. He teaches us to love everyone, not to pick out certain people to hate and others to love.
God gave some people the knowledge to discover a cure for a disease.
There are too many innocent people with HIV. It would be disgraceful to God not to be doing something to cure it.

I'm a Christian. Whether HIV is God's judgment or not is a general thing but God deals with individuals and sets people free all the time. He is a healing and loving God who doesn't want anyone to perish.

Certainly go along with the therapy---I'm sure God helped them develop it if it's working. God bless you!

no! the research needs to go on. you would condemn babies born with through infected mothers, people who contract the disease through blood transfusions. where is your loving god when it comes to these people? oh, wait, loving god is an oxymoron.

1. HIV is not a judgment by God against anyone.

2. Any cure for HIV would be a God send and I pray that someone is given the insight on how to cure this horrible disease.

Since God already knows everything that has ever happened or will happen and he has the power to stop it if he chooses....technically, isn't EVERYTHING within his will?

Even when I was a believer I always thought that God gave man smarts for a reason and some of those smarts were supposed to be used to cure diseases like this.

I could not care less about "god's will" but anything that will eliminate this horrible disease is OK with me!

Being the loving and kind person that you are, I know you're not going to like what I am going to say but...

Anyone who thinks that HIV was brought to us by God to punish gay people are not your brothers and sisters. And if they are, they are dillusional and need psychiatric help because it's obvious that God can't help them.

Sorry...a thought like that just totally rubs me the wrong way. It is a horrible, terrible thing to think God would be capable of punishing someone...anyone with such a sickness. It is not only gay people that get HIV, straight people get it too. Humans are somehow responsible for this disease, I don't know how but they are. It has nothing to do with God.

If I try to put myself in some fanatical Christian's mind, I would say that if God brought us HIV, then he can also bring the cure. He sent Jesus down so he didn't have to keep punishing us, so I would assume that even the Christian God can change his mind and/or decide to ease up a little after casting such a harsh judgement.

But in reality, I don't think that any of our ailments are God's doing. I think that the cures to our ailments are though but even then, the Divine works through people.

I constantly hear Christians say that no one should assume anything unless it's written in the bible. Nowhere within that book does it say that god sent HIV to the planet to punish homosexuals, nor have I ever read the words, "Thou shall not cure HIV" listed within the ten commandments.

There are millions of HIV+ rape victims, people infected because their spouse cheated on them, and children born with HIV all across the globe. Even if you do believe that AIDS and HIV are diseases sent from God to punish homosexuals (which is a ridiculous idea, as no loving God would punish someone for their sexual orientation), are you really willing to write off all of those other people off as collateral damage?

people choose to get HIV in most cases. i mean thats what happens when you mistreat sex, a gift that God TRIED to give to us in a pure pleasurable way.
