Coming down with a cold when I gave blood?

Hi, my school had a blood donor drive and I donated blood....they said I had good iron levels vitals etc. I was getting over a cold (or, thought i was) and the next day, I felt sick with the cold again and coughed a lot. This was 3 days ago and I still am kind of congested. So my question is = should I call the place I donated blood to and tell them I have a cold, or is it not a big deal? Second will the presence of cold virus in my body influence the results of the virus tests they do (HIV etc) on the blood? And will they let me know if there is a problem - if so how? (I live in the USA , California if it makes a difference.) Thanks

No big deal, although I do hope you disclosed any cold medications or antibiotics you had taken prior to donating. Cold viruses bear no resemblance to HIV, Hepatitis B, or any of the other things they routinely test for. You have the same probability for getting a false negative as anyone else. If they do need to contact you they will do so confidentially via whatever contact information you provided, usually regular mail.
