I am gay (and proud) but am I bound to get HIV because I am gay?

I'm not stereotyping but I been thinking alot lately about HIV/AIDS statistics and the Gay community (more the gay male community) and I been wondering if HIV is inevitable? I am gay does that mean that my chances of getting HIV are between maybe 80% - 90%? I want to live a long healthy life but I am actually scared of being gay now...Please help, advice, ideas and serious comments welcomed. Thanx fellow lesbian sisters and gay brothers.

You can have all the sex you want and not contract HIV as long as you have sex correctly. Use condoms, no swallowing, no bare backing, no scat, stay sober and in control of your sex life and enjoy it. you can bottom or top or suck. just do not allow that semen to contact a mucus membrane or anus, mouth, sinus, eyes cuts or scrapes. If you adhere To these rules you will be able to have sex with infected individuals and not contract HIV. Remember that they may not know that they are POS when they have sex with you so only you can protect yourself from this.

Unfortunately, it is true that anal sex (regardless of whether it's between two men or anyone else) does have a higher risk of infection because if not done carefully, it can result in some minor abrasion of the tissue, through which the virus can easily be transmitted. However, that doesn't mean you shouldn't be gay if you want to avoid getting HIV/AIDS, it just means you need to be careful, always use a condom and lots of lube, and check with your partner before having sex if they've been tested.

proud...so you should be
regarding HIV, yes it is about but also affecting the 'straight'community and te only way of safeguarding yourself is by 'safe sex ie use a condom, having said that if you are in a stable relationship you should be perfectly safe, promiscuity is the cause of spreading it

good luck
stay safe

Sweetheart, your fears are natural but unfounded, provided you play by the rules. I am 46 years old, came out 30 years ago, and still test negative.

YOU are responsible for your sexual health. If a partner refuses to wear a condom, you have the right to refuse sex. Wear a condom every time. Insist that your partners wear condoms. While condoms may break, it is rare. Oral transmission is possible if the receiving partner has cuts in their mouth or recent oral surgery.

There are 2 ways to be certain of avoiding ANY STD, including HIV:

1. Always practice safe sex.

2. Only have sex with someone who is both monogamous and who has no STD's.

If you do either of the above, you won't get HIV. You could probably have reasoned this out yourself if you had thought about it for about 10 minutes.

Well im bisexual and i am sexual active with other men and you just have to choose who you have anal sex with i think a ******** first night is harmless but maybe wait a few weeks with dates and getting to know someone then go get tested with your boyfriend and make sure your clean then you should be able to make love to your parter

You are just as likely to get HIV if you are straight or gay. It's an old stereotype and bit of misinformation that being GLBT makes you more likely to get any STD.
Always wear a condom, and use other safe sex practices.
Don't be afraid of who you really are.

practice safe sex, stay away from anyone with HIV if you have unhealed cuts or wounds on you, don't share dirty needles, and look up any other info there is online.By the way, you don't have to be gay to know these things.

Oh my god. Where are you getting this information? No, you are just as susceptible to the disease as anyone else. Use protection and you won't get it. Same goes for the rest of the human population.

Yeah. Just use a condom. Just because you are gay and probably sexually active doesn't mean you will contract HIV.

OK?

I HIGHLY doubt that your chances are that high.

Wear a condom or tell your partner to wear one also. Then you'll have the same chance of getting HIV as anybody else. Which is low.

No you are most certainly not. As long as you use condoms with your partners you will be safe and in no more danger of contracting HIV / AIDS than any other couple, gay or straight

Has nothing to do with being gay...Wear a rubber everytime and don't be promiscuous...this should make your chance of getting HIV pretty close to zero...

Gay men have the same chance of getting an STD as straight men do. Just make sure you or your partner is wearing a condom.

Condoms..

Don't sleep around the way many gay people do and don't use drugs.

Yes, if you don't use a condom.

But so will Straight people.
