Do you think the government is being just plain nasty?

The government says that there are nearly 50,000 people with HIV in Britain, a third of whom do not even know that they have it.

Is it just me, or is it a bit harsh that the government know and haven't told these poor people the bad news?

They could be getting on with whatever life they have left instead of living under an umbrella of government deceit!

Are you saying the British government knows these people are infected? It sounds more like they are guessing the number based on the cases they already know about. However, if they do know the specific people who are infected and have not notified them, then that is scary. If that is the case, my guess is that it is motivated by money because HIV treatment is very costly. You chaps do have government paid health care, right?

Government may not know their names. May also be engaging in guestimates. People testing positive give numbers of partners, not names of partners. Number of partners minus number tested equals number who [may] have it and don't know.

They probably estimated how many people dont know they have HIV. It would be impossible to give everyone in britain a blood test without them knowing so I dont think they can know exactly who has HIV.
