Sex Ed Reform??

I live in Illinois and there was article in the paper about a study that shows sex ed is not comprehensive.It said that HIV/AIDs was covered the most frequently with 96 % followed by abstinence till marriage at 89%.But abortion (39%),condoms(34%),sexual orientation (33%),and emergency contraception (31%) were covered the least.Of all the teachers who taught sex ed 57 % said abstinence is the best alternative,39% said it was the best alternative and 4% said it was one alternative.With all this it basically shows that sex ed is not comprehensive enough.If its not in Illinois i imagine every state has a similar problem.It explains a lot about why so many kids are confused about sex and how to preventive pregnancy.Isn't this enough to show there needs to be reform in the entire sex education of the US?What are your thoughts or comments?Thanks much.

There absolutely needs to be reform, but conservative religious politics are getting in the way.

They think that by educating children about options, they'll all turn into whores and pregnant mothers; so they're trying to opt for the "praise jesus because my ignorance is bliss" approach.

in elementary my teachers only tought us about females
then in 9th grade i learned how to say every sex organ in slang
did not learn alot ever other than sex is the cause of aids
first time having sex was 14

I think that abstanice should be taught as part of a comprehensive sex education program. We need to provide our children with the facts about sex. In a society where sex is so prevelent in our media, with rumors, myths, and knowledge children need to have a place they can go for the facts. Have the knowledge is vital to protecting our children.

My grandfather said something very wise one day. He told me that every generation thinks they invented pre-marital sex but that simply wasn't true. He said that it happened before, it was just that people got married before. According to him my Great-Grandmother had a saying "The first child doesn't have to take 9 months, it's only after the first that it takes 9 months to have a baby"

Personally, I don't care a bit about what the school teaches because I plan to talk to my own kids about it even before they find out at school. Parents need to be more active in teaching their own children about sex instead og leaving it up to the school system!!! THAT's where the REAL problem is!

What happened to the parents teaching their children about sex?? Oh... thats right...liberals
