Tough question about AIDS!!!?

Do you think as a result of prescribing medication to HIV AND AIDS sufferers we make the disease live longer therefore allowing it to be passed on versus no meds and the disease eventually dying off???????

I have seen the many faces of this disease and believe meds should be prescribed but was argued down about this in a heated discussion.I didnt want to state my stance on the issue because I wanted neutral answers.I dont mean to offend anyone.

Absolutely not. If nobody got antiviral treatments, the time from infection to emergence of AIDs symptoms, which averages 10 years, is plenty of time for infected people to spread the virus to many other partners unknowingly. That is why the virus is so successful - that long incubation period. Modern antivral treatments suppress the virus to a degree where the hiv infected person is not nearly as contagious, i.e., the viral load in their body fluids is many orders of magnitude (a factor of 1000 to 100,000) lower than it would be if they had not treatments. HIV infected people on antiviral treatments are far less contagious. That doesn;t mean it is safe for them to have unprotected sex with others, but the chances of transmission per unprotected sex act are dramatically lower, so even if they are irresponsible in this regard, they are mcuh less of a threat.

What are you trying to accomplish by this question... I think that everyone, regardless of the rest of the world, has a right to live. If I am ugly, should I stay indoors where no one can see me because it pains them to look at me? I am insulted by your question.

No. You can not spread the disease from casual contact so how can someone living longer cause the disease to continue to spread. With that type of thinking should we just let all contagious diseases go untreated and maybe the disease will just go away? Okay....lets see... Malaria , polio , measles. mumps , bacterial meningitis......Yeah this a great idea . Boy you are a genius.

I dont think that meds has anything to do with the disease spreading....and i dont think by just letting those people that have it die off is going to help it either...because even when they are still alive they could spread it... I think that by everyone playing it safe and having protected sex, (and if your gay, not having multiple partners) will help keep the disease from spreading...
