Why are people so scared of government healthcare?

If one takes the dollar amounts and multiplies them by % public funding, the US already spends more per person then their counterparts in healthcare, partly because the government can't control costs.

We see the lowest chance of living to 1, 5, 40, or 60 among either G7 or Anglo(add Australia, New Zealand) countries, highest HIV rate, and maternal mortality. Is there a serious study showing worse results/costs if the US went public?

several of you seem to think that I live in the US. I do not, but I was reading a forum of W's rejection of SCHIP and was shocked at the nature of some of the support for the decision, a fear and a feeling that this is a bilk-somebody else style policy.
When I had three broken bones in my right foot - i walked in to the hospital(not knowing what I had, but knowing the 'sprain' had been getting worse instead of better for three days), was x-rayed and walked out with a cast same-day. When I needed my appendix taken out in 2001, the day after labour day I thought I had a stomach ache, only later did I see a doctor, September 11th I was already recovering from surgery. The 'privacy' legislation is a problem though: even your doctors can't see your records unless you release each one, and they do always begin with the assumption you're malingering(sigh)

Because The Establishment has taken over our government, so people think they are so helpless to demand better!

Look at the auto insurance scam! INSURANCE IS ALWAYS A SCAM TO TAKE MONEY AWAY FROM THE CUSTOMER AND GIVE IT TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY!!!! Did you ever know that the largest developers and real estate owners are INSURANCE COMPANIES? Who else owns 5,000 unit apartments all over our nation (yes, that is five-thousand unit apartments in one complex), who else owns shopping centers all over our nation? INSURANCE COMPANIES DO!!!!!!

The best healthcare in the world is being used in Hawai'i. In Hawai'i the government taxes ONLY businesses for Hawai'ian health care (NOT INSURANCE!!!!!!!) and everyone is covered. The Hawai'ian health care program ONLY pays the health care providers such as the doctors and clinics, NOT HOSPITALS, NOT HMOS, NOT INSURANCE COMPANIES, NOT PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES!!!!!! The Hawai'ian health care program focuses on KEEPING PEOPLE HEALTHY more than on CURING people!!! Most of the profit is in curing people, so our nation does not patronize healthy diets and life-styles, it patronizes often the kinds of drugs that extend an illness while appearing to cure it, such as they do for Diabetes!

When the Hawai'ian governor and US Senator went to our US Congress in the early 1990's with a proposal that our nation adopt the Hawai'ian health care program, because their state and employers' health costs dropped dramatically by it, the health business lobby almost had a heart attack! The Repugnant Party senators and representatives rose up in ire and hatred and shouted the Hawai'ian governor and senator down and passed legislation that prohibited the Hawai'ian health care idea, and passed resolutions extolling the virtures of the exploiting costly HMOs, for-profit Hospitals, Insurance Companies and Pharmaceutical Corporations!!!!!

And the "sheeple" (sheep+people) just sat there and allowed the Repugnant Party and Congress to get away with it!

That is why we do not have government health care, because IT IS TOO INEXPENSIVE TO THE PEOPLE AND IT PREVENTS SICKNESS, HENCE IT IS UNPROFITABLE TO CORPORATIONS because IT PAYS THE DOCTORS AND HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS rather than subsidizing the non-health care conspiracy to suck profits out of the people's paychecks like leeches !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're also spending the most in government funded education. But the public school system has been going down the toilet for 30 years.

Giving the government more money and power isn't the answer.

Did you happen to forget Canada has a 6-12 month waiting list to see a doctor? If I'm sick and need medical attention, im gonna get the help right now thanks to my health insurance. I'm not going to walk in there and have them say "oh come back in a few months." Forget that, I'm getting treated when I need the treatment. I'm a working man so why is some scumbag without a job getting to see a doctor before I am? I atleast help the economy while the no job welfare bum sucks off the economy.

Take a Look a Veteran's Administration That's why! If you want it socialized under the governent you are free to leave and go over there! France almost went Broke under the same plan and England is close Behind. Ever wonder Why the Canadians come to the U. S for Healcare? It has Already been Tried over There and Failed Miserably!

Our Government Needs to need to fix the Problems with the Insurance Companies/Hospitals and let the Doctors do what's best for their patients, not Some Schmuck that can barely read let alone understand medical problems for a Bottom line Profit!

We are citizens of a nation that is now operating with a corporate/state socialism healthcare system. There is a single payer for all the top government functionaries and departmental executives. They are not complaining. I want to have the same access to healthcare that they have.

I think it is all a result of propaganda from the Health insurance companies.

The guy who said about the wait times in Canada is wrong. I live in Canada and when I need to see a doctor I just go see a doctor.
Usually I don't even need an appointment.

Those of us "living" the myth of Public health-care know that prior injuries often disappear from the public record, leading to charges of insanity and "malingering".

We know that Public health-care is health-care controlled by the mob that elects to spend so much of it's d ope money on political campaigns.

Spending money is meaningless in a country that tosses away vital documents on the actual medical condition of some "politically disaffected" persons, while lavishing nepotisms upon others. I could care less if the d rug addict upstairs gets treated like a queen after voting to kill her own sister, if I as a disabled law enforcement official she had shot is denied even the most basic care, while she spins a yarn about murders done by her suppliers after a lottery to see who would sacrifice him /herself to save the mob from loosing that needed cocaine and heroin by framing the local non-bribe taking game warden's deputy!

boy oh boy someone that has almost come up with the answer to his own question. everything that you bring to the front is almost correct with the exception of why the government can't control the high cost of health care. your statement that a doctor can't see your records unless you give the ok is just why we should get the american government out of big business and the health care system. who do you think came up with the privacy act anyway? it was the government. ask around about all the government regs that have cause businesses to leave because of the cost of government regulations. government regulations make buy medicine from canada cheaper. canadian drug companies can get medicines to the people in half the time that american drug companies can because of all the crap american drug companies have to deal with that the government has put on them. canadians do not have the malpractice and law suits that americans have that also drive up the cost of everything. check out americans liability laws that require manufacturers to insure there products from day one no matter how many times the product has changed hands (small airplane manufacturesin perticular) all of these things drive up prices or force companies to search elsewhere to produce their goods. the health care system can not out source their product or they would do so mr doodles
