Du you support the Human Genome Project?

The Human Genome Project is about cloning, curing diseases such as Cancer and HIV/AIDS, and helping humans to live longer.
What do you think?

Just remember that the soldiers that attacked Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid, were enhanced by this project. So I dont support it cause Im not sneaky enough, like Snake, and would likely get shot by the super human terrorists. So put that in you pipe and smoke it!

Yes I support it! I think that this would help humans in the long run.

Of course I support it, one would be idiotic not to support it. It will further our knowledge of health, medicine, and science.

No, it's dumb. God never intended for humans to know.

Oh, wait. Nevermind.
I just really like telling other people what to do, and I also enjoy using "God" as a mouthpiece for my own opinions.

The Human Genome Project has nothing to do with cloning. You may have heard of "cloning genes" and thought this was cloning. It is not. Cloning genes is just the process of inserting a piece of DNA into bacteria in order to make the millions of copies of the DNA needed in order to read its sequence of ATCG's.

I believe that anything that can cure diseases such as cancer and AIDS is a wonderful thing. These diseases have affected too many people for too long, and caused way too many deaths. This project is an exciting new frontier for humans to combat some major medical problems. This could potentially open up new possibilities of finding cures, or at least causes, for other devastating diseases, like cystic fibrosis and breast cancer, because they can now target and find the gene responsible for these diseases through this project. This would be especially valuable if it gives us insight into a way to repair mutated DNA, since damaged DNA can't repair themselves, so when they do reproduce, they reproduce in the mutated DNA form. This could possibly also cause a mutation in the cell's mitochondria, which is the "powerhouse of the cell". Mitochondria are responsible for converting nutrients in the body to an energy yield molecule called ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) to fuel the cell's activities. Some cells have more mitochondria if they need more energy, like muscles, for instance.

Researchers have now found that the nucleotides, which is the chain that creates the double helix of DNA, are at an unequal amount in the mitochondria. This could potentially lead us to finding the causes of mutated mitochondria, some diseases and even the aging process itself. If we found a way to slow down the mutated mitochondria, we could possibly find a way to slow down the aging process as well. Mutated mitochondria are also believed to be responsible for Alzheimer鈥檚 by some doctors. Doctors speculate and argue whether or not this is a fact, but either way, mitochondrion mutations can cause major problems in the cell and the human. The mitochondria are also essential elements in the electron transport chain, which is responsible for providing the cell and the human with energy.

This project could help reduce or even eliminate mutated DNA and mitochondria in humans and animals, which, like I've already established, would solve many medical problems. Since the DNA of an organism is what is really "cloned", this is an extremely feasible task. In other words, I think this project deserves a great amount of respect and gratitude because of the endless possibilities it could bring to the areas of genetics, medicine and science in general. The right information, and what we do with it, are our most powerful weapons to combating anything, especially in the world of science.
