Let's talk about a what if...I would like to hear someone who works with viruses?

Do you think that AIDS or HIV will ever be airborn?
I mean we are talking a virus that changes each time it finds a new host. As see I HIV/AIDS are "learning" to live. What is stoping from taking the next step and become like the flu?
There are other virus and live out side the body longer making intake a lot easier. It's just that AID/ HIV just happen to be more frail. What is stoping it from making that jump?

Evolution....it takes time for a virus to alter its basic properties. In time it may well evolve into another form but there is no way of telling. If it does it will be far far more dangerous than it already is;

It would still take a very, very long time, even though HIV is so highly mutable. This would probably take 1,000s to 1,000,000s of years. There are so many things that would have to happen by then. As you said, the virus would have to be able to survive outside of the body. It would need to recognized different receptors to get into the body (now it recognizes receptors on T cells and mucosal surfaces. It would have to recognize receptors in the respiratory system to become airborne). By this time, there are many other factors that could have happened.
1. We have a cure or vaccine for HIV
2. HIV is no longer a strictly human pathogen, or it recognizes receptors in multiple species.
3. HIV doesn't kill- it finds a more proper host/virus balance so that it can survive and replicate more. It becomes a virus with a latency/lytic cycle, such as Herpes or even Chicken pox.

I don't worry too much about virus or any other physical malady. For I understand completely that when your immune system is strong, nothing can infect or effect you. Not everyone who has had sex with an HIV infected person has contracted the virus. Our culture which includes diet/excercise/ and spiritual practice has weakened our immune systems. We should concentrate on strengthening our temples and not live in fear of the unknowns or what if's.
