You would think that with the introduction of AIDS in the 70's and 80's, that homosexual men would be less

promiscuous. Actually, it seems like just the opposite has happened. Gay men and especially younger gay men - 18-30, have become more promiscuous, and hiv rates have been going up, and also other stds, etc. People are living longer with hiv, because of the hiv cocktail drugs, and I feel that because of this, maybe this is giving people and especially gay men, who are in the high risk category, a false sense of security, and thus lead them to be more promiscuous. Or do you think, that if people want to hook up, then they will, regardless of the health-related risks?

Gay Rabbi, the worldwide aids averages and numbers are GREATLY skewed due to the fact that millions upon million of Africans have Aids. I am not referring to that group in my question. I am referring to Americans, and to be more specific, American Gay men.

This generation has little connection to the last, and has little in the way of knowing the reality of AIDS.

Plus, when you are young, the world is your oyster, right?

100 years ago, syphilis was deadlier than AIDS is now. Winston Churchill's father died of it. Didn't stop anybody either, straight or gay.

Any promiscuous person runs a HIGH risk of contracting an STD. ANYONE!!

Did you know that nearly 40 million people have AIDS and nearly 90% of these people are Africans from the Sahara regions? Did you know that 70% of people who have AIDS are heterosexual? Did you know that almost 60% of people who get AIDS in todays society get it before the age of 18 years old because of the lack of condoms provided to teenagers?

Don't come preaching about homosexual men being the problem when so many heterosexuals face the same problem and the heterosexual population is doing nothing but saying "wrap it up" to prevent it. AIDS has no prejudices - you shouldn't either.


*** well darling i hate to bust your bubble but the statistics still apply ... the majority of AIDS victims in any society including AMERICA includes HETEROSEXUALS ... the homosexual population is just a small percentage of it ... see that is why it spread so fast in the first place ... think about it ... only 10 percent of the population is gay ... do the math ....

You would think that women who didn`t want kids would practice safe sex now that they can easily. You would think that men who didn`t want children would too. The pill was introduced in the 60`s and yet.
People hook up and are stupid about it. Love and lust have always made people do damned stupid things and always will.

FIRST of all, promiscuity for both straight men and gay men IS the same! Life is a risk. And when you forced by (American culture) society to feel less than equal, risky behavior isn't so very far removed from everyday life.
to H8 If AIDS is gods punishment to gays then what is SIDS, influenza ,West Nile Virus,avian flu, MRSA,anthrax and a list of other inflictions, gods punishment to heterosexuals?

You'd also think that it would deter straight couples from promiscuous sex, but those statistics are rising.

In general, people need to be more educated about safer sex then simply abstinence. And where should they be getting this information? The schools. The parents can't be relied on to hand out this valuable information. So, I say increase sex education a lot more than it already is. Make it opt-out-able by parent request, but the school needs to step in and teach it while everyone is young.
