Do you Think Andrew Speaker has a right to his privacy???

I mean there are a million diseases out there and we are living amongst them. HIV, Flu etc.. there are all sorts of stuff you can get these days that are contagious. If we had excellent healthcare stuff like this won't happen, but I think they are invading this mans privacy. Yes he should of taken the appropriate steps to avoid exposure to others. I mean if an outbreak occurs I am sure our government is prepared but this story is outrageous. We can't expect to know everyones health history that is envading privacy. What our your thoughts???

Maybe if this was a disease that was curable you would be right, but its not.

This man hasa drug resistant form of T.B. which means he ispotentiall snetencing anyone he comes into contact to death.

He also knew about how dangerous his disease it, he admitted to it.

He said that when he left the country he was told by his doctors he was not a healht risk - fine, at that point he did nothing wrong by flying to greece.

However, while in Europe, he was contacted by doctors who informed him that he had a drug resistant form of T.B. and that he should not travel.

He then decided to fly back without regard for the health of the people on the plane he flew on.

And his reason for this - He feared not being able to get approriate medical care if he was not in the U.S.

so, in otherwords, he decided on his own it was acceptable to risk the lives of everyone on that plane to save himself - can he be more selfish?

Cause we all know that the European healthcare system doesnt exist and that your as good as dead if you get sick over there (thats sarcasm for those of you that missed it).

What he did was inexcusable and by doing this he gave up his right to privacy as he has now endangered the lives of many others - It is now the responsibility of hte authorities to inform everyone who was not only on the plane, but standing next to him at the airport of the potential risk, and it is their responsibility to do this by an means at their disposal.

If he wanted to keep his privacy he shouldnt have made his desease a public concern.

He gets no sympathy from me what so ever.

Here is the article where he admits to sneaking back into the country for fear of dying if he didnt get to the U.S. because he knew how dangerous his disease was:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18960857/

I don't think so. He lost that right when he exposed a ton of people to a nasty disease. If someone who has HIV goes around and exposes people to their disease and doesn't disclose they are infected, they can be arrested and then their name is known. Not saying this guy should be arrested, but he doesn't have a right to privacy about this.

I just think it's rediculous that people have the audacity to blame this man for taping the doctors telling him he wasn't contagious. Then people believe he should have stayed in an entirely different country indefinetly because they did a sudden about face. It shows what Americans are truely about, greed and misplaced blame.

I agree...enough already. It is one thing to talk about it for a day but to just keep going on and on. My dad has a rare lung disease and if he gets the flu he could possibly die. If he gets pneumonia he could to and as you said...people travel with the flu..step throat...aids etc and it is not all over the news. So my dad wears a mask everytime he travels, flys etc because people spread disease constantly. Its fine and all we heard the story but time to let it go. I think the guy really believed he was not dangering anyone. I think his father in law is more guilty because he should have known better but then again if there is no more tb he loses his career.

The simple fact that he flew through Canada to go on his trip says he knew that his travel should be restricted. I don't buy the idea that he didn't know. It is possible that he chose to ignore the warnings, but it just tells me that he is a selfish jerk. It is ironic that he is an injury lawyer.

Once someone acts in a manner that is dangerous to others, then he loses his right to privacy. If he was acting in the best interests of the people around him, then I would be all for protecting his privacy. But, his actions have shown that he cannot be trusted to act in a responsible manner.

Yes he has a right to privacy up to the point he starts affecting other lives by his careless actions.

It is like someone should be allow to carry a concealed weapon as part of his privacy and be able shoot others.

What are you talking about? No one is invading his privacy. They are just trying to warn people who may have been exposed. I'm not sure I understand you. Are you saying they should keep it a secret and let him go on his way to infect others? If I was on that plane, you can bet I would want to know that this man was also so that the appropriate action could be taken. You are defending the wrong side here, perhaps you are family or something. And you know nothing about health privacy if you think that it (disease that has been essentially eradicated here) should be kept secret. Just ask yourself this: How would you feel if you had been on one of those planes? Those are the real victims.

For everybody, any disease ....health privacy is a right.
