Of what use is it to keep an HIV infected baby alive from birth to adulthood?

i have a friend who got infected and gave birth to an infected baby and the grandpa's of the baby are doing al they can to see the little boy live evn though he is almost deing. And that if the child lives, he'll want to keep a relationship and so infect others.

The question is, are they confirmed HIV with antibodies and "infected" as you say or in full blown AIDS. That makes a great difference. HIV is only a verification that the virus is in the body. Your body sometimes reacts initially to the virus by having flu like symptoms, then you often show no further signs of the virus for years...until it progresses into AIDS. Magic Johnson is a perfect example of this. He has been HIV positive for over 10 years, but never became ill and advanced to AIDS.

AS treatments advance, so do the chances of finding a full cure for all HIV infected people. It's such a shame that this baby contracted the virus from it's mom. The expected percentage for this occurring is less than 10% now. That is very sad. Poor little angel.

The kid will only live to 7 years of age.

they've got some good drugs out nowadays that can give an infected human being a life expectancy that is near enough good as an uninfected person.
There are also drugs out to reduce the risk of a pregnant infected woman passing the disease onto the child.
everyone has the right to life though I do think it is selfish for an individual knowing they're pregnant and having a baby. but that is just my opinion, it is always different when you are put into that situation.

Are you advocating they kill the baby?

In the first place, the child is innocent - and who knows why the parent became infected - she, too, could have been innocent and simply met a man who either did not know or did not reveal his HIV+ status.

Despite the fact that this child has HIV+, this child is a human being. The child, should he or she grow up to adulthood, will be educated about his or her HIV+ status and taught how to Not infect someone.

Just imagine if you were in that person's shoes - would you want someone to mistreat you or put you to death - even though you were innocent - just because of your HIV+ status?

Just think - what if this HIV+ baby grows up and is the one to discover a solution to HIV+ and AIDS - or to any other problem that has existed for centuries. If we were to get rid of this child, we would never know what he or she is capable of - this child deserves as much a chance as a healthy individual.

Even though the kid has a terminal illness, it doesn't mean that you should just snuff out his life just because you think he is useless or dangerous. I'm pretty sure the kid isn't going around sleeping with people or spreading his blood around. It's not his fault he was born into horrible circumstances and a life experience is still a life experience. His right to life should be respected and even if he is destined to die young, whose to say his life won't impact or inspire others? I'm pretty sure the mom's and grandpa's life is impacted as well as the doctors and nurses he sees everyday.

Are you kidding? would you let your child just lay there and die if it were born with a disease? Did you have unprotected sex and get HIV? I mean your friend did doesn't that mean you will too? You cannot judge the future actions of an individual based on the actions of their parents or anyone else. My suggestion to you is first mind your own business. and two practice safe sex we would hate for someone like you to bring a sick child into the world that you'd probably euthanize

I think the best thing for the parents or grandparents to do is to make sure the child gets the HIV meditions to keep him alvie. He/she don't have to die. He/she can live a long and healty live just like anyboby else.

Would you advocate killing a baby born with cancer, heart disease, whatever? Why? One BIG reason most people would say, absolutely "no", is that while the baby is alive there is always hope...hope that a cure will be found before the baby/child/adult dies from the illness. The same is certainly true for AIDS. It is only a matter of time and a cure will be found.

Another reason is that all life is precious. When someone else can say "Your life is worth living....But your life is not worth living" you begin to devalue life itself. And that is especially true for a helpless child.

Whats the use? A child is not just around for "use". The child was meant to be here, and he should be able to be a live without people bringing him down.Don't you think the face that he was born with AIDS is enough for him to have to think about when he is older? Its not his fault he was born with AIDS, and i think its heartless for someone to be asking "whats the use?". For all anyone knows the cure for AIDS could come tomorrow. So my advise to you is to start worrying about yourslef and your future instead of a childs life that you look down upon.

why should you be a judge on that,, the baby dident ask to be brought in this world you should judge the parents..instead of asking yahoo answers why dident you ask the parents...they knew they was sick and they choosed to have a sick baby .. they should have used protection and not got pregnant...
