Can you get hep c or hiv from dried blood on a towel?

What if you had scabbed cuts that made contact with it? I was drying off using my own towel after showering, and noticed some patchy spots of blood on the towel. I think a guest who came to our home earlier may have bled slightly on it when he decided to wash his hands and dry them on my towel. I've heard something like hep c can live for weeks outside the body.

Do you know for a fact that your guest has hep and hiv??? Do you know for a fact that this particular guest dried his hands on this particular towel? How do you know the blood didn't come from you when you were shaving or something? I think you're worrying for nothing, but In any event, I think (not sure though) that the viruses die when blood dries. Also, you didn't have an open wound that came in contact with it! I'd talk to your doctor anyway though and get tested in a few months if you're pretty certain that your guest was infected.

are you sure that your guest has Hep C? why don't you wash your towels?
get tested to be sure.

Yes hepatitis can live outside the body. If you think you may have come in contact with it go to the doctor right away don't take chances if you wait too long then they can't do anything about it.
While HIV may live for some time outside of the body, HIV transmission has not been reported as a result of contact with spillages of blood. Just because someone comes into contact with tiny quantities of HIV in dried blood, it does not follow that infection will occur.
Check on it if your worried. Its better to be safe than sorry.

They are both blood borne viruses. Only way you can get them is from sex, or blood to wound contact.

It's very, very doubtful, but weirder things have happened.

i have a exboyfriend thst got hep c after cleaning his brothers blood from his home

Hep c is a blood bourne pathogen> Working in hospitality you learn a little about Bio-Hazards. Hep-c can live up to 7 days on a sheet. and I've heard you can contract it even if you had so much as a sunburn.as I said I heard but for something this serious seek a professional I'm sure they can refer you to Stephanie down there

Not everyone infected with the hepatitis C virus knows it. It's a tricky illness. It can be deadly. Information is crucial. The links below take you to this information. These to-the-point articles cover hepatitis C causes, symptoms, tests, and treatment. You'll also find links to the support you'll need.

NO - the almost instant the Hep C or HIV hits the air - it dies!! It only lives is living organisms and blood. It is always a good idea to treat any Blood nowadays with caution. I have hep C for since before they actually had a test to reveal what is was. Mine is Inc active - witch I still must watch my diet and Tylenol intake. Have had two liver biopsies and attended several classes at the Hospital and a personal friend of mine is the Head MD of the GI Liver Clinic at the local VA Hospital I work at. Hope this helps! Also I have been married for 11 years and my wife has not contacted Hep C - you can only get it with open cuts or blood to blood contact.

You can not get HIV from dried blood because once the virus is outside the body it dies soon after.

Hepatitis C, however, CAN live outside the body for weeks. You should get tested. Hepatitis C is also incurable.

dried HIV? no. HIV dies within 24 hours after oxygen is introduced. HIV spreads through all bodily fluids.

hcv? yes. hcv infectious blood whether dry or fresh can transmit. the most common amount of time at room temperature at least 16 hours, but no longer than 4 days.(both only transmit if an open wound is present)

hcv is ONLY spread through blood to blood cross conatmination. you would clearly have had to of had an open wound. as for sunburn, that is false. you cannot catch hcv through a sunburn unless you have open wounds from blistering.

folks-if you do not know the answer, please do not make comments.

as for hcv passing through all bodily fluids? wrong again! hcv is only a blood born pathogenic disease. there has to be blood to blood cross contamination!! ALWAYS in the case of HCV transmittal!
*unless there is an open wound and infectious blood present, it's not gonna happen!

hcv is living in BLOOD only. dried blood once blood is reintroduced can cause hcv infection.
hcv corpuscles found in all other bodily fluids are NOT transmittable!!!!!
