How Does Someone With Hiv Cope with most people backing away at its mention?

I'm so sorry to say that people's ignorance makes them arrogant. Honestly, most people including myself do not know a whole lot about HIV except that it is one of the worst things you can get. People back away because they are afraid of it and their fear keeps them from learning the truth about it. The only thing that will change the way people perceive HIV...is knowledge. And unfortunately, educating America about HIV is a long shot. People are just afraid, that's all.

I don't know how to cope because I don't have HIV and I don't live with it. I don't even know anyone with HIV. The only thing I know to tell you, is explain to people that it's not something you can just "catch" and they are not at risk of getting it by just being a normal friend...geez. People are so stupid sometimes.

Unfortunately, so many people are ignorant and do not fully understand HIV and its mode of infection which is NOT casual contact. It is sad, and I am sorry so many have to deal with this ignorance.

Be overly physical especially if this physical contact is shuned. Try to lacerate your self in certain places aswell, palms for example. Thus spreading the disease to the shunner. They will then have no reason to distance themselves from you.
You could just throw your arm at them. Or is that leprecy?

People with HIV learn to cope. They also learn when and who they should reveal their status to. Unfortnately there's still alot of stigma surrounding the disease.

Tell 'em it's cancer you are battling - the symptoms are similar in many ways, some of the medication is quite similar and the side-effects just as bad as for HIV, so you wouldn't be telling much of a lie, would you? Also it would satisfy people's experience of your bad days, giving their minds an explanation they can believe and without the stigma. Whether you got it by needle or sex or by bloodspill at work or whatever, blood tranfusions... it hardly matters now does it? Deal with other people's feelings as you see fit - you owe them nothing. Concentrate on being strong to fight your illness in mind and body and the spirit will always be alive. Dying spiritually is the worst thing, so keep your outlook as bright as possible, not building up false hopes but by getting on with being alive right now. Believe me, I know as far as it's possible to know how to traverse this landscape. I don't have HIV but I do have a illness which is killing me in stages, and every morning I see the sun come up and the world open like a flower and that is my reason for living, if you want one. Some mornings I feel like 'Today might be the day I don't have enough strength to keep going'. One day the vomiting and runs won't stop, the pain will be so disabling I won't be able to draw breath, and they'll want to put me in hospital I guess. I'll hold that day off as long as I have the will, and screw what anyone thinks. You have the right to occupy space like anything else!!!

yep pretty much...there is a stigma attached to that disease...the fact that it is mostly sexually transmitted...it makes people think they are promiscuous and well....not the "quote" type of person we all want to function in society..

Get re-tested. Many who do get a different result.

Well operating in the pharmaceutical field people are ignorant to the facts,because they just don't take the time to research.What people don't realize is that you can't be afflicted just by coming in contact only if you actually engage sexually with that person.That still may not not cause you you to contract anything the best to stay safe is to simply abstain and be proud!!!!
