How long does it take for HIV to become AIDS? If someone was diagnosed with HIV today, what is the average? |

No one can be certain about it, if untreated HIV will become AIDS in 5 or 10 years, but look at magic johnson it麓s been more than 15 years since he anounced he had HIV and in his case he hasn麓t had AIDS, so I gues it dependes on the medication you take . 5-10 yrs 5-10 years till it manifests. Then it rapidly progresses. Patients usually die a few years after it manifests. It could take around 10 years. But it could be longer or shorter time. Life expectancy also varies, depending on the medical care and complications that arise. It's not the AIDS itself that kills, its the pneumonias, and other illnesses that accompany the diagnoses that actually kills. AIDS is a virus that attacks your immune system and makes your body unable to defend it self against the mildest of illnesses. ha ha You cant say an exact number of years. It depends on white blood cells and a number of other factors.I have a family member who has been living with it siince she was about 19 now she is damn near 40. there is no time line, if you take care of your self and take your meds you can live a full life. |
