Should the Goverment fight AIDs/HIV?

Shouldn't this be left to private organizations and not the government. We just keep burning tax payer money on this issue. Nothing is working. I'd rather take the 3-5 Trillions in dollars we have spent tax payer money and use that money to divide it up among the 175 million capable adults living in America. This would come out to about $30,000 (+,-)per Adult. and if they invest that earning 12%. This country would continue to be one of the richest by far. FYI: Imagine if we added what politicians use in Pork Barrel spending to this account as well. I could go on and on where we could get more money from the Government to add to this Fund. Literally all Americans could be rich to some degree using this method, and this would be passed down from generation to generation.

SKA- I'm not a stuck up rich bit*hes who lives in America. Although I could use the money too better provide for my families Future for generations when the money is properly invested. And the money is not saving lives. It's only prolonging the inevitable

well, the government grants funding to research resulting in the betterment of society.

it may seem like a huge waste to the lay community, but research--good research--will take time and a lot of money; it is not expected that some breakthrough discovery will be made, researched, tested, and marketed within a year. furthermore, the information from research performed in the US is shared among a global community.

it is shortsighted to think of wanting the instant gratification of 30k for frivilous gain. imagine if the government ran with your idea back in the 1950s when the polio vaccine was discovered--think about the implications if that research were never funded...

furthermore, look at what already happens when private companies fund research--fund anything really--they charge alot of money for their services.

i would much rather have my tax dollars fund responsible research and have that investment paid back to society in the form of cheaper medications or medical services because i've already prepaid for those services with my tax money.

also, why is it that you only want this money to go to "capable adults?" sure, i would like an extra 30k in my bank account, but the truth is i don't necessarily need that extra money--i do ok on my own. there are other people in this society that can much better benefit from some government aid, you know...the impoverished or disabled or homeless; 30k can make a huge impact on their lives while for others they'd probably get a nicer car or take more vacations or something like that.

If contributing to the fight against HIV/AIDS is important politically, then perhaps tax incentives could be provided to individuals or organizations who donated to those causes; I think that would be far better than spending the money directly.

So you're saying we should take all the money that's saving lives, and give it to the stuck up rich bit*hes who live in America so they can be even more stuck up, rich and bit*hier?
Yes, that's what you're saying.
It doesn't matter how you word it, all of the money would be going to the higher classes.
Now if you took the money and gave it to the lower classes, the people suffering from poverty, we could talk.

Otherwise, I think it's a good idea that we're helping with HIV/AIDS epidemic. The private organizations are recieving money from the government to continue helping the people stricken with this dieases.
The government needs to help more, I think.
As soon as my organization gets to Africa, I'm sure the government will be helping us fight the epidemic, too.

Keep in mind that if we don't help control the outburst, half of the people who are keeping their money, instead of helping control it, are probably going to end up with the disease anyway, and look, it's spreading even more.

Since the Governments of the world are already doing stuff to fight AIDS/HIV your question is more of

(a) If this were left up to private enterprise, would they be motivated to do a better job than the government, or would they do nothing at all, because they could refuse health insurance to anyone with AIDS/HIV, refuse treatment to anyone with AIDS/HIV, refuse research $ to cure AIDS/HIV so that people with this problem woudl be second or third class citizens quarantined from the rest of us with a better quality life, lower costs of health care, but in constant fear of being exposed to THOSE PEOPLE and thus become one of them.

(b) Is the government capable of doing a better job fighting this problem, and should we, the tax payers, pay it to do so?.

(c) Is door # 3 preferrable, like which has been used in fighting Cancer? People, who think this is an importat disease we need to get a cure for, make donations to the effort to find a cure, find better treatments, etc. People who have other priorities do not make any such donations. The world is a better place because of results so far from this charitably funded research.

The government has always played a part in any public health issue... why should this one be any different.

the pharmaceutical industry makes enough money off the pill popping junkies to do their own studies,..

to avoid the hiv, people should keep their pants on, or like smoking and trying to get insurance, forget about insurance or pay the premiums,..

if one gets the hiv, see ya, wouldnt want to be ya,..

a true communist government will fix the nation,..

i e a e,..
avatar of the unification,..
