What is meant by secret diseases ?

What are the secret diseases ? Is the diseases live HIV called as secret diseases ?

actually i think you meant "silent" disease.
the reason for the term is that doctors mis-diagnose the symptoms of the actual disease without knowing the cause-

some people claim that they have no symptoms.

take HCV for instance. this is a double stranded RNA virus that needs the liver to reproduce. Just as the body figures out how to fight it off, a new genetically changed virus is released, after years of infection, the body becomes overloaded with virons...HCV is found in all tissues throughout the body, not just the liver.

Once an organ becomes damaged due to the HCV, symptoms ALWAYS appear....however, if a doctor does a standard liver panel blood lab, sometimes with HCV (or any other unknown virus) the ALT and AST levels are not always affected, thus, making the doctor think that all is well....

so....he treats the symptoms or tries to treat them. so, with most doctors these days they know that HCV is not "a-symptomatic" and forgoing the standard blood lab, they test for antibodies and if found positive, the person is treated with the correct medication (some genotypes do not respond to treatment because of lymphatic involvement) and most symptoms go away.

a silent disease is rather old school concerning hcv. hcv has over 150 symptoms, of course, not all will have very single one of them.

HIV is never a symptomatic either, however, there may be a breif period in which there are no known symptoms (at least up to 6 months after infection). A person does not know they have it during this time unless they test for it.

I really have never read on any disease that did not have symptoms. It is not until doctors realize that the more they treat, the more symptoms are tallied up, coming to conclusion that yes, there are symptoms.

Take fibromyagia-they do not know what causes this disease, but it is real. It could be a combination of things like environment, genetics or a viral infection gone un-noticed.

I had fibromyaglia, but once I did the treatment for my HCV, it went away. I might have a slight attack due to stress every great now and then, but it's not with me every waking moment like it was prior to treatment and diagnosis for HCV.

I think it's Hepatitis C. Many people who contract Hepatitis C are not aware they have the virus. That's why it is called a "Secret Disease".
