Are we suppose to bend over backwards for people who are HIV+?

Most of those who end up HIV+ are those who live a lifestyle full of promiscuity, and because of their decisions, we, who don't embark in that sort of lifestyle suppose to do "more", care "more", and give "more" because of it?

uuumm...africa. it's not like they're crazy whores over there. $10 from my ipod went to finding for a cure for aids. supporting something helps me sleep at night. it could basically happen to anyone. irony is beast so you better watch yourself.

hey look. i got 10 points from you. thanks for the stupid question. i knew someone "high and mighty" like you would want to make themselves feel better. glad i could make that happen for you. i do care, but not about people like you. good day. Report It

Would you rather bend over forewards? I think that's how that stuff is spread.

No one is forcing you to have some compassion for others.

more what?

I was going to leave my answer at that, but I would like to point out that Bush likes to spend a lot of taxpayer money on abstinence-only education programs. If by giving "more" you're referring to your taxes, what do you think of programs like this, that teach not to be promiscuous? Without discussing their lack of effectiveness, are you willing to give "more" for this?

Oh and if you're complaining about taxes, you're not being asked to give "more" than anybody else.

What? Jebus you have no heart. Many people with HIV have not acted any different then you or me. There are many good, decent, honest people who have HIV from a number of different ways.

I suggest that you don't bend over at all!

You are supposed to follow the law - anything else is your choice. So you cannot discriminate against someone with HIV in employment for example, but you can choose not to give to AIDS charities.

There are plenty of people who get ill because of their behavior - drunks who crash their cars, obese people that develop heart problems and diabetes; rock climbers who fall off mountains - the list is endless.

In the case of HIV infection, while some transmission is through risk taking, a large number of the women, particularly black American women infected, get the virus from a partner who they believe is being faithful to them. Would you not want to help those people either? And would you have a medical questionaire to determine who gets help an who doesn't?

That's not necessarily true, just so you know. Being HIV+ might be the result of promiscuity, but it also might be the result of a bad decision, a relationship where their partner didn't tell them/didn't know they were HIV+ or even a blood transfusion (though only if it was 1976-1982, it was a lot more common then).

So here's the question -- would you be sympathetic to someone with cancer? True, you don't catch cancer from sex, which seems to be the issue people have, or their issue is that the person who has HIV has a something like 65% percent chance of being homosexual, and most people don't like to deal with gays/lesbians.

Last year, I had two friends die of AIDS. So I sympathize with anyone with HIV, because it seems to be basically a death warrant. But do I think they should get more, just because they have a disease? No more than the sufferer of any other disease, such as cancer, Parkinsons, or MS.

Boy... there sure are a lot of kids that have been born to HIV positive parents... guess that was their fault for picking parents with HIV...
Many husbands/wives have learned that their spouse was cheating on the side, but not until their HIV test results came back positive. I guess that was their fault for loving someone, that didn't love them back the same way....
I wouldn't say that it is bending over backwards.. but more having concern and compassion for other people.
Also, to be quite frank, what exactly have you done that makes you feel you have bent over backwards. Did you develop a cure?

Seriously, why would you ask that question, just as long as they keep the disease away from you and those that you love what does it matter. You should watch your words you dont know what your future holds, you may end up getting it or someone that you love, so watch your words, I believe God and that's my judge, so what does it matter to you

We are not supposed to treat them any differently than anyone else. Would you treat someone with cancer differently? Not all people HIV positive were promiscuous.
