Do you know someone with or have lost someone to HIV/AIDS?

I'm collecting names to honor those who are living with HIV/AIDS or who have passed away from it. We're writing the names on lanterns as part of a candlelight walk honored World AIDS today this weekend. If you have a name you'd like to be honored, just let me know.

P.S. If you want to give me a name but not broadcast it over the internet, you can e-mail me in private. Thanks for all the responses. I'll keep your loved ones in mind tomorrow.

Mark Spath--Austin City Council. Died 1985. His wife Amanda Blake (who also died from AIDS) played Miss Kitty on Gunsmoke.

I served drinks to the guys who scattered his ashes over Lake Travis (w/o a permit, of course!) after they had done it. I am one of the few who knows that his wish was fulfilled.

I do know people with HIV and I wish I could give you their names. Its awesome what you are doing

Personally I have been fortunate enough to not have lost any one to the dreaded disease. I worked as a nurse's aide for a year and a half, there I have come across a few people who suffer from it.

Wonderful person and friend. We, local AIDS Outreach, made a quilt for him that traveled and was displayed all over the U.S. He died such a horrible, slow death. I took off work, stayed with him in the hospital a few days, brought him home for the last time, then stayed at his home with him a couple of days. We, volunteers at AIDS Outreach, rotated sitting with him. He did not pass on my shift. His suffering tore me up. His blood relatives abandoned him because of the AIDS stigma. The only comfort I could provide him was to rub his feet with lotion or gently rub his back.

(I hadn't heard from all those folks in ages - we were all part of a religious/social group of men and women and I had lost touch. When I went to a March on Washington, the quilt was there. I found his panel by accident. Eddie was a great guy and I shall miss him terribly)

Folks - always let people know how much you care. I always thought Eddie would be there and we would get back in touch. Put your emotions out there!
