How long can someone live with HIV?

I know people have asked this before. But I was wondering if anyone knew if there were any new studies to show the amount of time an HIV infected person can live while on medications and eating healthy/exercising etc.

I have been HIV+ for 5 years now and I know people that were born with HIV and are now in their mid-20's.

I think it really depends on one's lifestyle. I gave up smoking, drinking and drugs and I also take meds. I am also happily married and I have a daughter so I believe this gives me a reason to stay health also.

It's a known fact that if you're HIV+ and happy, you will live a longer life than those that aren't happy.

At the moment people with HIV can live a full life with proper medication, they can even have children with little chance of passing along the infection to the infants (something like under 3%). Medications can be costly though

HIV patients have a virus which stays in the dormant stage for up to 23 years the dormant stage is where the virus replicates inside of the cells but do not harm them. After a period of time the virus erupt from the cells killing them then that person has AIDS. So depending on the virus and the person a person can probably live about 25 years after they have been diagnosed depending on how long the virus stays in the dormant stage.

The lifespan with HIV varies widely. It depends on the immune system you inherited from your ancestors, and it depends on how strong the particular virus is that you got. Much of the virus being transmitted these days is already immune to many HIV drugs, and thus it is stronger and more likely to kill you swifter. Truth is, there is no known cure for HIV. Technically, everyone who has it will die from it's complications (if they aren't hit by a bus, or drown, etc.). Currently there are folks still alive 24-26 yrs after infection, but virtually all of them suffer from some sort of complication and or disability. Thankfully, science is still doing a good job of keeping pace with the virus's ability to become resistant by developing new drugs. But virtually all of those drugs have side effects over time. This may not be the answer that comforts you most, but as others read this stuff, it's important to warn them about taking chances with this deadly disease.
Good luck :)

With the new medications, who knows. Many are living long fairly healthy lives. (decades) considering the virus has only been known since the early to mid 1980's it is hard to say.
