Can HIV live in freezing environments? |
I heard that HIV can be preserved in freezing environments until thawed out. Is this true? HIV only lives in the human body, and only can be transferred as such, so I doubt it would be "living" in ice cream. HIV is a retrovirus, and virus could not be considered as a living organism since it lacks metabolic enzymes, ribosomes and other equipments required for making proteins. Thus, a virus cannot be killed since it is non-living outside a host cell in the first place. HIV likes warm environments; after 12 hours, it dies if outside of the body. |
