How can we help people living with HIV & AIDS in rural Africa get access to the drugs they need to stay alive?

In many areas of Africa it isn't for lack of relevant drugs that people with HIV and AIDS are dying - it's because many people living in rural communities simply can't access - or can't afford to access - the healthcare centres that stock them.

We at Trans Tanz are trying to find easy solutions for this problem - how do you suggest we can help?

It would be a real help to these poor people if the idiots that govern these countries wern't so selfish.

It is really offputting for the likes of me to contribute to charities and see these bent governments profiting more than the victims of these terrible plights.

Unfortunatly it seems these criminal politicians get into power on the back of bad promises or military coups and then rape their respective countries assets and persecute the population into 're-electing' them and then murdering the oposition and denying the people of their basic right to education and medical assistance.

Again unfortuntely, if we in the West do anything about these wrongful governments, the do-gooders start to cry and protest that we shouldn't be interfering.

Crime Lords rule the region. It would take physically going over to administer the medication to make it work. Anything else will just go to a corrupt government.

This may sound cruel to some, but it's really the only way to put an end to HIV/AIDS, so here it goes...

Don't give people with HIV/AIDS drugs to stay alive. The longer they live the more they can spread the disease. If you really want to end AIDS, isolate or quarantine people with it and let them die off. AIDS is a virus and that's the only way to defeat a virus.

spread the campaign asking help from various non-gov organizations and also from helpful generous people.

i'm from Congo who migrated here in Midland for 5 years already and would love to extend my help to HIV victims back home.

Your asking americans. They are the completely wrong group of people to ask about that.
They are far to concerned with their malls and fast food places to be bothered by something not american.

I've lived in Africa and worked with HIV/AIDS patients in bush hospitals as well as in Kibera in Nairobi. Have you considered working alongside with anyone who is also out in that area who travels through the area? I know there are lots of local missionary doctors who travel from village to village running free medical clinics. One of their issues is not being able to get their hands on the drugs to give out and are relying on the donations from people supporting their mission. That money is not usually enough for HIV/AIDS medication. It's not that you're participating with the prostelytizing but rather you're partnering with the people who are already out there. Just a thought.

Oh and for the people who say to just let everyone die off, I highly disagree. Losing a whole generation will just plunge Africa into further poverty. This needs to stem now.

The only feasible answer to the AIDS/HIV problem throughout the world is a change of behavior. It is the most preventable illness of our time. Quarantine of those infected would also be a solution. It has certainly proven effective in preventing the spread of other diseases. Of course that would not be politically correct.

Why would we?
People living in rural Africa are not my problem.
Who's taking care of my problems?
