The London Assembly wrote in early 2003 advising their forthcoming consideration of HIV/AIDS in London. The Health Committee took oral evidence at a series of meetings starting October 14th 2003. (click to read about that meeting).
Meanwhile they asked UKC (and others) to provide written evidence to address some or all of the issues.
Thanks to everyone who contributed ideas and experiences to our submission to the London Assembly. The text of the UKC submission is reproduced here
The meeting on November 18th at 10am at City Hall heard presentations from Thandi Haruperi (UKC Trustee) on "Living with the Virus - the perspective of African women", and Crusaid - "HIV and Poverty". UKC Chairman, Bernard Forbes, was called to answer questions alongside representatives of Positively Women, The African HIV Policy Network and Body and Soul.
Additionally, THT were commissioned to run focus groups with people living with HIV in the capital. These were facilitated by Robert Fieldhouse (formerly of NAM, currently also working for the UKC).
We expect the Scrutiny Report to be published in February 2004.
