A draft London HIV strategy was consulted upon in 2000. The draft London HIV strategy (2004-7) takes account of the earlier draft and is in response to the London HIV review of commissioning arrangements, the Greater London Assembly’s recommendation of their scrutiny of HIV services and also will link into the draft London Sexual Health Framework.
Draft London HIV strategy (2004-7)
The draft London HIV strategy is attached and is the second draft after comments from the HIV Strategic Planning and Modernisation sub-group of the London HIV consortium. The HIV consortium plans, fund and monitor HIV treatment and care services in London on behalf of Primary Care Trusts and the London Specialised Commissioning Group ( SCG ) that oversees the commissioning of specialised services that includes HIV services. It consists of people living with and affected by HIV, HIV clinicians and representatives from Provider Trusts and PCTs. The draft London HIV strategy focuses on HIV treatment and care services and refers other areas to appropriate lead agencies. It sets out the current and strategic work, much of which is ongoing work by the London HIV consortium or are priorities in other national work e.g. DH National Sexual Health and HIV strategy (2001), the Medical Foundation for AIDS and Sexual Health’s standards for NHS HIV services (2003). It is written in the format of the draft London Sexual Health Framework (to be published).
Timetable
The proposed timetable aims to complete the strategy by December 04 as follows:
The Strategic Planning and Modernisation Sub-group will arrange appropriate meetings with stakeholders as required to clarify any issues arising from the draft strategy.
